Introduction: To investigate the changing trends in short- and long-term outcomes after partial hepatectomy(PH) for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) performed in the 21st century.
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on 1300 consecutive patients who underwent PH for HCC. The study cohort was divided into 3 time periods(P): P1(2000-2005), P2(2006-2011) and P3(20012-2017).
Two patients presented to the Emergency Department with sepsis and vague localising complaints. Both of them had a new elevation of the right hemidiaphragm on chest radiography and were eventually diagnosed with complicated acute cholecystitis on CT imaging. In both cases, the hemidiaphragmatic elevation could not be explained by mass effect as there was no sizable intra-abdominal collection.

Methods: Review of 204 MILR and 755 OLR without previous LR performed between 2005 and 2018. 1:1 coarsened exact matching (CEM) and 1:1 propensity-score matching (PSM) were performed.

A total of 1,281 specimens from 1,024 patients were screened. Phylogenetic analysis classified 44 of these isolates as Klebsiella quasipneumoniae subsp. (44/1,281 [3.

Targeted PCR amplification of azole (ERG11 and ERG3) and echinocandin (FKS) resistance-associated loci was performed on positive blood culture media.

Objectives: In patients with a history of carbapenemase-producing, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CP-CRE), the need for CP-CRE targeted treatment in subsequent sepsis episodes is unclear. This study aimed to characterise the incidence of subsequent CP-CRE infective episodes in individuals with prior CP-CRE colonisation and/or infection, and identify predictors for these subsequent CP-CRE infections.
Methods: All adult inpatients with CP-CRE detected from any site between June 2012 and May 2014 at a tertiary-care hospital were prospectively followed for two years to assess for any subsequent CP-CRE infections.
An increase in the number of Salmonella enterica serovar Saintpaul observed in Singapore in 2015-2016 in humans was accompanied by increased resistance to third generation cephalosporins. We aimed to understand the genetic mechanisms contributing to this resistance. Whole genome sequencing using MiSeq was performed on 49 S.

To further enhance their secretory activity, efforts have emerged to tether nanosized carriers of secretory stimuli, named nanostimulators, to the MSC surface by forming nonchemical bonds. Despite some successes, there is a great need to improve the retention of nanostimulators during transport through a syringe needle, where high shear stress exerted on the cell surface separates them.

We aimed to review our institution's experience and outcomes with minimally invasive central hepatectomy (CH) and right anterior sectionectomy (RAS) for CLT in a propensity score-matched (PSM) analysis.
Methods: Retrospective review of a prospectively maintained surgical database revealed 23 patients who underwent MILR (6 CH, 17 RAS) and 53 patients who underwent open liver resection (OLR; 24 CH, 29 RAS) for CLT.
While still premature as an energy storage technology, bulk solid-state batteries are attracting much attention in the academic and industrial communities lately. In particular, layered lithium metal oxides and lithium thiophosphates hold promise as cathode materials and superionic solid electrolytes, respectively. However, interfacial side reactions between the individual components during battery operation usually result in accelerated performance degradation.

First-time parents, in particular, are in need of support since the pregnancy until post-delivery to strengthen their early PSE. However, there is a lack of effective and sustainable relevant programmes in the community.

Although covalent small molecules against KRAS have shown promising efficacy against lung cancers, traditional barriers remain for drugging the more prevalent KRAS and KRAS mutants. Targeted degradation has emerged as an attractive alternative approach, but for KRAS, identification of the required high-affinity ligands continues to be a challenge.

In newborn care practice, SBE is used in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and training in procedural skills. The NRP is a mandatory course in Malaysia for all house officers (interns) and medical officers (residents) during their pediatric rotation.

We describe an approach using real-time aggregation of keywords and phrases of freetext from real-time clinician-generated documentation in electronic health records to produce a customisable real-time viral pneumonia signal providing up to 4 days warning for secondary care capacity planning. This low-cost approach is open-source, is locally customisable, is not dependent on any specific electronic health record system and can provide an ensemble of signals if deployed at multiple organisational scales.

Introduction: Intubations in the emergency department (ED) are often performed immediately without the benefit of pre-selection or the ability to defer. Multicentre observational data provide a framework for understanding emergency airway management but regional practice variation may exist. We aim to describe the intubation indications, prevalence of difficult airway features, peri-intubation adverse events and intubator characteristics in the ED of the National University Hospital, Singapore.

Aim: To evaluate the cost of inpatient rehabilitation for children with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Secondary aim was to identify factors associated with high inpatient rehabilitation cost.
Method: Retrospective review of a tertiary hospital's trauma registry was performed from 2011-2017.
Background: Understanding the spectrum and course of biological responses to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may have important therapeutic implications. We sought to characterise biological responses among patients hospitalised with severe COVID-19 based on serial, routinely collected, physiological and blood biomarker values.
Methods And Findings: We performed a retrospective cohort study of 1335 patients hospitalised with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 (median age 70 years, 56 % male), between 1st March and 30th April 2020.
Organs On-a-Chip represent novel platforms for modelling human physiology and disease. The lymph node (LN) is a relevant immune organ in which B and T lymphocytes are spatially organized in a complex architecture, and it is the place where the immune response initiates. The present study addresses the utility of a recently designed LN-on-a-chip to dissect and understand the effect of drugs delivered to cells in a fluidic multicellular 3D setting that mimics the human LN.
