Objective: To test the hypothesis that students with asthma who have access to school-based health centers (SBHCs) receive more recommended preventive care and use less emergency care, we compared patterns of health care utilization among rural students with asthma by SBHC access.
Study Design: Using a cross-sectional design, we analyzed encounters for all patients ages 4 through 19 living in 4 counties covered by a health care system that sponsors a network of SBHCs in rural upstate New York. Patient addresses for each encounter were geocoded to school districts, allowing us to determine whether students lived in districts with (n = 15) or without (n = 23) a SBHC.
School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) are important healthcare providers for children in medically underserved communities. While most existing research on SBHCs has focused on urban environments, this study protocol proposes a mixed-methods, multi-level research framework to evaluate the role of SBHCs in addressing health disparities among underserved children and adolescents in rural communities. The study area includes four high-poverty rural counties in New York State served by Bassett Healthcare Network that permits a comparison of school districts with SBHCs to those without SBHCs, all served by providers within the Bassett Healthcare Network.

Identifying mixture components is a well-known challenge in analytical chemistry. The Inverted Library Search Algorithm is a recently proposed method for identifying mixture components using in-source collision induced dissociation (is-CID) mass spectra of a query mixture and a reference library of pure compound is-CID mass spectra ( 2021, 32 (7), 1725-1734). This article presents several subtle but important advances to the algorithm, including updated compound matching strategies that improve result explainability and spectral filtering to better handle noisy mass spectra as is often observed with real-world samples such as seized drug evidence.

Previous research has focused on the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) as a key brain region in the mitigation of the competition that arises from two simultaneously active signals. However, to date, no study has demonstrated that ACC is necessary for this form of behavioral flexibility, nor have any studies shown that ACC acts by modulating downstream brain regions such as the dorsal medial striatum (DMS) that encode action plans necessary for task completion. The authors develop 3-D models of the pediatric knee from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) image files, with the goal of minimizing injury to the pediatric growth plate during surgery. Computerized tomography (CT) scans have better resolution and contrast between bone and soft tissue than MRI scans; however, surgeons rely upon MRI scans to plan knee-joint surgeries such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Surgeons can use the virtual models to plan and verify surgical procedures such as hole drilling and ligament attachments, and to determine volume removed from a growth plate due to different drill-hole placements with various drill sizes.

Measurements of fiber diameter indicated that the SIDS population had significantly larger diameters for type 1 and type 2 fibers than the control population. We report two new variant translocations, both of which involve chromosomal rearrangements of 22q12. Cytogenetic studies of tumor cells from a 12-year-old girl revealed a variant translocation, t(7;22)(p22;q12), the second example reported of a simple variant of the 22q12 reciprocal translocation in this type of sarcoma.
