Objectives: Evidences for anticoagulation strategies in cirrhotic with portal vein thrombosis (PVT) are still insufficient. This study aims to comprehensively compare the therapeutic effects of different therapeutic therapeutic measures in individuals suffering from cirrhosis with PVT, with the ultimate goal of providing evidence-based recommendations for thrombolytic therapy in this population.

Methods: Starting from 20 October 2023, a comprehensive search about therapeutic strategies for portal vein thrombosis in cirrhosis was conducted on PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) may be linked to obesity, and this study explores the causal relationship using visceral adipose tissue (VAT) as an indicator.
  • Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis revealed that VAT positively correlates with CKD risk, with hypertension mediating about 45.8% of this effect.
  • The research found that while VAT affects CKD outcomes, its direct influence on kidney function indicators, like eGFR, needs more detailed study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looks at how AIDS cases, deaths, and overall health impact changed around the world from 1990 to 2019, including differences between regions that are rich and poor.
  • Researchers gathered data from 204 countries to find trends over the years and make predictions for the next 25 years.
  • Overall, while the number of HIV cases increased slightly, the rate of new cases was actually going down, especially in poorer regions, and they expect this positive trend to continue in the future.

Background: Hyperuricemia, as a very prevalent chronic metabolic disease with increasing prevalence year by year, poses a significant burden on individual patients as well as on the global health care and disease burden, and there is growing evidence that it is associated with other underlying diseases such as hypertension and cardiovascular disease. The association between hyperuricemia and dietary inflammatory index (DII) scores was investigated in this study.

Methods: This study enrolled 13, 040 adult subjects (aged ≥ 20 years) from the US National Health and Nutrition Survey from 2003 to 2018.

Chemical reactions with submerged barriers may feature interesting dynamic behaviors that are distinct from those with substantial barriers or those entirely dominated by capture. The Si + HO reaction is a prototypical example, involving even two submerged saddle points along the reaction path: one for the direct dissociation of H (H-dissociation SP) and another for H migration from the O-side to the Si-side (H-migration SP). We investigated the intricacies of this process by employing quasi-classical trajectory calculations on an accurate, full-dimensional ab initio potential energy surface.

Background: We analysed the cancer burden among elderly Chinese people over the age of 55 years and compared them to USA and Western Europe to explore the cancer model in China.

Methods: We retrieved data on 29 cancers with 34 risk factors from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease database to evaluate the cancer burden in Chinese elderly individuals aged 55 years and older. We then used the age-standardised incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardised death rate (ASDR), age-standardised disability-adjusted life year (DALY) rate, and average annual percentage change (AAPC) to compare the characteristics and change trend of cancers among China, USA, and Western Europe.

Background: Primary brain and central nervous system cancer (collectively called CNS cancers) cause a significant burden to society. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the trends in the burden of CNS cancers from 1990 to 2019 and to predict the incidence and mortality rates and the corresponding numbers for the next 25 years to help countries to understand the trends in its incidence and mortality, and to make better adjustments or formulation of policies and allocation of resources thereby reducing the burden of the disease.

Methods: The 2019 Global Burden of Disease Study provided incidence rates, death rates, and disability-adjusted life year (DALY) data in Asia from 1990 to 2019.

Background: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is frequently employed for cardiac surgery, and selecting a suitable priming fluid is a prerequisite for CPB. Currently, the commonly used priming fluids in clinics are classified as crystalloids and colloids, including balanced crystalloids, albumin, dextran, gelatin and hydroxyethyl starch (HES). This network meta-analysis compared the effects of eight fluids used during CPB in adults to determine optimal priming fluid during CPB surgery.

Background: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum, and the infection source is syphilis patients. This study aimed to estimate the incidence, mortality rate, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of syphilis to improve the understanding of the current global situation of syphilis.

Methods: This study collected data on syphilis incidence, mortality, and DALYs from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease database.

To evaluate the efficacy of different pharmacologic treatment for severe hypertension during pregnancy. Two reviewers searched Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid EMbase, and the Cochrane Library for randomized clinical trials from the establishment of the database to 15 July 2021 that were eligible for inclusion and analyzed the pharmaceuticals used for severe hypertension in pregnancy. 29 relevant trials with 2,521 participants were involved.

Background And Objective: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the most prevalent chronic respiratory disease. This study investigated the global, regional and country burden of COPD based on gender, age and socio-demographic indices (SDIs) in the last 30-year period from 1990 to 2019.

Methods: The COPD data, including incidence, mortality and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), were obtained from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease Study.

Background: Children and adolescents who experience traumatic events may develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is often associated with other psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is widely used in psychotherapy to treat PTSD in children and adolescents. This meta-analysis evaluated previous studies on the effectiveness of CBT in the treatment of PTSD in children and adolescents.
