Metal-air batteries desire highly active, durable, and low-cost oxygen reduction catalysts to replace expensive platinum (Pt). The Fe-N-C catalyst is recognized as the most promising candidate for Pt; however, its durability is hindered by carbon corrosion, while activity is restricted due to limited oxygen for the reaction. Herein, TiN is creatively designed to be hybridized with Fe-N-C (TiN/Fe-N-C) to relieve carbon corrosion and absorb more oxygen when catalyzing oxygen reduction.

Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), as one of the most advanced methods for the green production of hydrogen, is greatly impeded by inefficient mass transfer. Here we present an efficiently reactant enriched and mass traffic system by integrating high-curvature Pt nanocones with 3D porous TiAl framework to enhance mass transfer rate. Theoretical simulations, in situ Raman spectroscopy and potential-dependent Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results disclose that the strong local electric field induced by high-curvature Pt can greatly promote the HO supply rate during HER, resulting in ∼1.

We report here an electrocatalyst that exhibits superior performance in the electrooxidation of ethanol. The reactive centers of the catalyst have a nest-type configuration with outer Zn-NC nest covering inner PtZn intermetallic compound nanoparticles loaded on carbon support (ZnNC⊂PtZn/C). The high-energy stepped facets of the inner PtZn nanoparticles confined and shaped by the outer Zn-NC nest is highly active for the critical C-C bond cleavage of ethanol in oxidation, confirmed by experimental characterizations and density functional theory calculations.

Persistent pain frequently precipitates the development of anxiety disorders, yet the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study, we employed a mouse model that simulates trigeminal neuralgia and observed a marked reduction in the activity of GABAergic neurons in the lateral habenula (LHb), a critical region for modulating pain and anxiety. We utilized precise optogenetic and chemogenetic techniques to modulate these neurons, which significantly alleviated behaviors associated with pain and anxiety.

The dopamine D3 receptor (D3R), principally confined to the nucleus accumbens (NAc), is involved in regulating natural and drug rewards; however, the molecular mechanisms underlying the associated process remain unclear. Earlier research has reported the concurrent influence of D3R and miR-29c expressed in the NAc on methamphetamine (METH)-induced reward behaviors and microglial activation, hinting at regulatory roles in reward processing. Herein, we performed viral manipulation-mediating D3R/miR-29c overexpression and inhibition in the whole NAc in male D3R knockout and wild-type mice to investigate this potential relationship.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists studied how methamphetamine (METH) affects memory in mice and found it messes with their learning abilities.
  • They created models to see how METH changes brain cells and discovered that METH causes inflammation in the brain early on, but this doesn’t get worse with more doses.
  • The researchers believe that even though the inflammation might not get worse, certain molecules linked to it stick around and are connected to the mice’s bad behavior, suggesting that treating inflammation could help with problems caused by METH.
