Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the antiulcer effects of an ethanolic extract (SmEE) from a plant, as well as its main components, gallic acid (GA) and ellagic acid (EA), which are known for their medicinal properties.
  • Various assays were conducted to determine the extract's antioxidant activity, revealing SmEE's ability to significantly reduce ulcer size in models induced by ethanol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
  • The findings indicate that not only does SmEE have protective effects on the gastric mucosa, but GA and EA also work together synergistically to enhance this protection against ulcers.

Thiazole derivatives are recognized to possess various biological activities as antiparasitic, antifungal, antimicrobial and antiproliferative. The present work reports the synthesis of 22 new substances belonging to two classes of compounds: thiosemicarbazones and thiazoles, with the purpose of developing new drugs that present high specificity for tumor cells and low toxicity to the organism. A cytotoxic screening was performed to evaluate the performance of the new derivatives in five tumor cell lines.
