Obstetric racism, a debate under construction in Brazil: perceptions of black women on obstetric violence.

This article aims to know the perception of women on obstetric violence from a racial perspective. This was a qualitative study carried out in a public maternity hospital with 25 women in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and participant observation from November 2021 to February 2022.

Trans men and paternal pregnancy: experiences during the pregnancy-puerperal period.

This study aims to analyze the experiences of a transgender man during the gestational-puerperal period and the perspective of obstetric nurses in training based on the dynamics and organization of obstetric healthcare in a hospital setting. This qualitative study is based on a case study approach, employing interviews and direct observations to collect data. The analysis was based on the theoretical and normative framework of the Nursing Process, the Theory of Caring, and the theoretical/critical perspective of transfeminism.

Professional autonomy in dealing with complications: discourse of obstetric nurses working in planned home births.

Objective: to understand the exercise of professional autonomy by obstetric nurses in dealing with complications in planned home births.

Methods: this is a qualitative study, supported by the Discourse of the Collective Subject methodological framework, whose data collection took place from January to March 2021, through interviews guided by a semi-structured script, in which seven midwives who are members of a childbirth care collective in northeastern Brazil and who work in the home context participated.

Results: four central ideas emerged from the collective discourses related to the exercise of professional autonomy by obstetric nurses: shared decisions; theoretical-practical instrumentalization; professional expertise; and teamwork.

Planned home birth assistance: challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objective: To understand the challenges faced by urban midwives in assisting planned home births during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Qualitative study, based on the Collective Subject Discourse methodological framework, carried out with eight professionals, members of a birth care collective from the northeast region of Brazil. Data was collected between September and October of 2020 using the focus group technique.

Obstetric nurse and the factors that influence care in the delivery process.

Objective: To identify the factors that influence the improvement of obstetric nurse care in the delivery process.

Methods: Descriptive exploratory study with a qualitative approach conducted at a teaching maternity hospital located in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil with 20 obstetric nurses from the Obstetric Center. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews between June and September 2017 and was then subjected to the Thematic-Categorical Content Analysis proposed by Franco.

Factors related to quilombola attendance to child follow-up appointments.

Objective: To understand factors interfering with the attendance of quilombola children to growth and development follow-up appointments.

Method: It is a qualitative research based on Symbolic interactionism, during which 14 mothers of children bellow 1 year-old were interviewed, who attended to the Family Health Unit at Ilha de Maré, Bahia, Brazil.

Results: Appointment attendance is affected by factors intrinsic to mothers (meaning of child health follow-up; association between appointments and children falling ill; personal issues) and extrinsic factors, related to the service (availability, long waiting time for appointments and its quality).

Elements which precipitate conjugal violence: the discourse of men in criminal prosecution.

Objective: Unveiling the precipitating elements of conjugal violence based on the discourse of men undergoing criminal prosecution.

Method: This is a qualitative study developed in a Domestic Violence and Family Violence Campaign against Women from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.

Results: We interviewed 23 men.

Best practices in the delivery process: conceptions from nurse midwives.

Objective: to know the conceptions of nurse midwives about the care guided in the best practices to the women in the delivery process.

Method: descriptive research with a qualitative approach developed in a Federal Maternity-School. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 nurse midwives, and the speeches were categorized according to the thematic content analysis proposed by Franco.

Repercussions of imprisonment for conjugal violence: discourses of men.

Objective: to know the consequences that men experience related to incarceration by conjugal violence.

Methods: qualitative study on 20 men in jail and indicted in criminal processes related to conjugal violence in a Court specialized in Family and Domestic Violence against women. The interviews were classified based on Collective Subject Discourse method, using NVIVO(r) software.

[Social support to women in situation of domestic violence].

Objective To understand the meanings attributed by health professionals to the social support of women in domestic violence situations. Methods We interviewed 52 professionals from five local health units of the municipality of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Data were processed based on the Grounded Theory.
