: Male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) after surgical treatment of benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) is an infrequent but dreadful complication and constitutes a therapeutic challenge. The efficacy and safety of the adjustable trans-obturator male system (ATOMS) in these patients is rather unknown, mainly due to the rarity of this condition. We aimed to assess the results of ATOMS to treat SUI after transurethral resection (TURP) or holmium laser enucleation (HoLEP) of the prostate.

The development of capsules with additives that can be added to polymers during extrusion processing can lead to advances in the manufacturing of textile fabrics with improved and durable properties. In this work, caffeine (CAF), which has anti-cellulite properties, has been encapsulated by liquid-assisted milling in zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different textural properties and chemical functionalization: commercial UiO-66, UiO-66 synthesized without solvents, and UiO-66-NH synthesized in ethanol. The CAF@MOF capsules obtained through the grinding procedure have been added during the extrusion process to recycled polyamide 6 (PA6) and to a biopolymer based on polylactic acid (PLA) to obtain a load of approximately 2.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates risk factors for developing postoperative overactive bladder (OAB) in patients who received an adjustable trans-obturator male system (ATOMS) for stress incontinence after prostate cancer treatment.
  • It involved 56 patients, collecting clinical and urodynamic data before and after ATOMS implantation to identify factors impacting OAB and treatment efficacy.
  • Key findings included that higher preoperative urinary incontinence intensity, poor ICIQ scores, and specific urodynamic measures (like bladder capacity and urethral resistance) are significant risk factors for developing OAB, with detrusor overactivity being a crucial element.

Unlabelled: Liposarcoma is the most commonly occurring soft-tissue sarcoma and is frequently characterized by amplification of chromosome region 12q13-15 harboring the oncogenes MDM2 and CDK4. This unique genetic profile makes liposarcoma an attractive candidate for targeted therapeutics. While CDK4/6 inhibitors are currently employed for treatment of several cancers, MDM2 inhibitors have yet to attain clinical approval.

Objectives: E-cigarettes are the most commonly used nicotine containing products among youth. In vitro studies support the potential for e-cigarettes to cause cellular stress in vivo; however, there have been no studies to address whether exposure to e-liquid aerosols can induce cell transformation, a process strongly associated with pre-malignancy. We examined whether weekly exposure of human bronchial epithelial cell (HBEC) lines to e-cigarette aerosols would induce transformation and concomitant changes in gene expression and promoter hypermethylation.

Single-walled carbon nanotube buckypapers (SWCNT-bps) coated with a metal-organic framework ZIF-8 layer were used as supports for the preparation of Pebax 3533 TFC membranes by both phase inversion and spin coating techniques. Upon proper characterization of the materials by X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetry and electron microscopy, the obtained membranes were tested in gas separation experiments with a 15:85 CO/N mixture. These experiments proved that the ZIF-8 layer prevented from the penetration of the polymer selective film into the SWCNT-bp support, giving rise to a highly permeable selective membrane.

Three synthesis procedures for the covalent-organic framework (COF) TpPa-1 are studied with the purpose of setting up the most promising one in a fast and green way, leading to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable process. With conventional heating, good crystallinity and a high BET specific surface area (SSA) of up to 1007 m  ⋅ g are achieved at 170 °C for 3 days using water as the quintessential green solvent. However, the application of microwave radiation in the synthesis for this crystalline porous polymer allows reaction times to be shortened to 30 min while maintaining structural and textural properties (BET SSA of 928 m  ⋅ g ) and obtaining yields close to 98 % (vs.

The physis of the distal femur contributes to 70% of femoral growth and 37% of the total limb growth; therefore, physeal injury can lead to important alterations of axes and length. Distal metaphyseal corner-type fracture prior to walking is classically associated with child abuse. In children aged >10 years, sports-related fractures and car accidents are significant contributors.

Research and reviews to date suggest that community-based residential treatments for substance use disorders (SUDs) have mixed effectiveness, with some studies finding positive outcomes while others finding no differences between intervention arms, including inpatient, outpatient, and control groups. In order to understand these mixed findings, reviews have underscored the importance of outlining the active treatment components of residential treatment, as well as treatment mechanisms and outcomes. Further, there is very little research on the underlying theories explaining how and for whom residential treatments are effective.
