Article Synopsis
  • - This study compares chronic immobilization stress (CIS) and cisplatin treatments as models for studying premature ovarian failure (POF) in rats, focusing on their effects on ovarian function and the potential benefits of a mitochondrial protective agent (AP39).
  • - Sixty female rats were divided into six groups to assess different treatment combinations and evaluate factors like hormonal levels, estrous cycles, and ovarian health through various tests and observations.
  • - The results showed that both CIS and cisplatin treatments led to significant declines in ovarian health markers, and AP39 did not fully return these parameters to normal, suggesting that the CIS model may better represent stress-induced ovarian dysfunction rather than typical POF.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how unilateral testicular torsion affects M1/M2 macrophage polarization in both testicles, focusing on the response over time after the injury.
  • Using 63 male rats, researchers found that Torsion/Detorsion (T/D) led to significant tissue damage, with increasing severity observed from 4 hours to 14 days post-injury, while the Sham groups showed no such changes.
  • Histopathological evaluations indicated enhanced M1 macrophage activity in the contralateral testis, suggesting that macrophages may contribute to injury in the unaffected testicle as a result of the torsion event.

  • Levamisole, originally an anti-helminthic drug for animals, has been explored for its immunomodulatory effects in humans and recently gained attention for potential benefits in treating COVID-19.
  • In a study on male rats, levamisole treatment resulted in significant changes in sexual behavior, including increased mount and intromission latencies, decreased copulatory rates, and prolonged postejaculatory intervals.
  • Additionally, levamisole led to testicular damage, indicated by cellular disorganization and increased expression of pro-apoptotic proteins, suggesting it may negatively impact male sexual function and induce testicular cell apoptosis.

Doxorubicin (DOX), a broad spectrum chemotherapeutic, has toxic effects on healthy tissues. Mitochondrial processes and oxidative stress act in the DOX-induced toxicity, therefore antioxidant therapies are widely used. The study was aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Pleurotus eryngii extract (PEE), an extract of a fungus with antioxidant properties, against DOX-induced lung damage.
