Background: Hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) (OMIM# 137215) is an autosomal dominant cancer syndrome associated with CDH1 (OMIM# 192090) mutations. Prophylactic total gastrectomy (PTG) is the most recommended preventive treatment when a pathogenic mutation is found. However, the increasing use of genetic testing has led to the identification of incidental CDH1 mutations in individuals without a family history of gastric cancer.

Background: Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) have repeatedly been related to COVID-19 severity and mortality. However, there is no consensus on their quantification, and there are scarce data on their evolution during the disease. We studied circulating NET markers in patients with COVID-19 throughout their hospitalization.

Methods: Exome sequencing TRIO analysis, using germline DNA from the biological mother and father along with the index case (IC).

Reversal learning measures the ability to form flexible associations between choice outcomes with stimuli and actions that precede them. This type of learning is thought to rely on several cortical and subcortical areas, including the highly interconnected orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and basolateral amygdala (BLA), and is often impaired in various neuropsychiatric and substance use disorders. However, the unique contributions of these regions to stimulus- and action-based reversal learning have not been systematically compared using a chemogenetic approach particularly before and after the first reversal that introduces new uncertainty.

The slowdown in economic development caused by traffic accidents in Spain, together with the disparity in the risk of death or injury due to traffic accidents in its provinces, makes it necessary to evaluate their road safety performance. Therefore, the objectives of the present research are, on the one hand, to find out the level of road safety efficiency of Spanish provinces in the period 2014-2018. On the other hand, it is also aimed to determine to what extent the annual efficiency change is originated by pure changes in efficiency or by technological changes.

Surrogate Safety Measures (SSMs) are used to express road safety in terms of the safety risk in traffic conflicts. Typically, SSMs rely on assumptions regarding the future evolution of traffic participant trajectories to generate a measure of risk, restricting their applicability to scenarios where these assumptions are valid. In response to this limitation, we present the novel Probabilistic RISk Measure derivAtion (PRISMA) method.

We present the consensus document on the immunization schedule for adolescents developed by 3 scientific societies: the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP), through its Advisory Committee on Vaccines (CAV-AEP), the Spanish Society of Adolescent Medicine (SEMA) and the Spanish Association of Vaccinology (AEV). There are particularities in infectious disease during adolescence, such as an increased susceptibility to pertussis, poorer outcomes of chickenpox, mumps and hepatitis A, a high incidence of sexually transmitted infections or increased prevalence of meningococcal carriage. The document analyses the schedule for adolescents in the context of vaccination policy overall.

Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) is caused by protein loss through the gastrointestinal tract which results in hypoalbuminemia. The most common causes of PLE in children include cow milk protein allergy, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, hypertrophic gastritis, intestinal lymphangiectasia, and right-sided heart dysfunction. We present a case of a 12-year-old male with bilateral lower extremity edema, hypoalbuminemia, elevated stool alpha-1-antitrypsin, and microcytic anemia.

Background: Severe COVID-19 entails a dysregulated immune response, most likely inflammation related to a lack of virus control. A better understanding of immune toxicity, immunosuppression balance, and COVID-19 assessments could help determine whether different clinical presentations are driven by specific types of immune responses. The progression of the immune response and tissular damage could predict outcomes and may help in the management of patients.

Background: Data on clinical outcomes for base of skull (BOS) chordomas in the pediatric population is limited. We report patient outcomes after surgery and proton radiotherapy (PRT).

Methods: Pediatric patients with BOS chordomas were treated with PRT or combined proton/photon approach (proton-based; for most, 80% proton/20% photon) at the Massachusetts General Hospital from 1981 to 2021.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are medications commonly used by pregnant women. While SSRIs have been considered safe during pregnancy, there is limited understanding of the long-term consequences of prenatal SSRI exposure on adult behavioral processes. Recent human studies have demonstrated prenatal exposure to some SSRIs in humans may increase susceptibility to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and developmental delays.

Prescription psychostimulants, such as methylphenidate (MPH), have served as a first line treatment for ADHD and associated developmental disorders since 1961. Psychostimulants has been shown to improve attention, response inhibition, and reduce hyperactivity in patients with ADHD, as well as in non-clinical human populations and animals. While there is a considerable amount of preclinical research investigating the effects of stimulant medications on reward sensitivity and basic learning in male rats, less is understood about their effects in females.

Using advanced near-UV photoemission spectroscopy (PES) in constant final state mode (CFSYS) with a very high dynamic range, we investigate the triple-cation lead halide perovskite Cs(MAFA)Pb(IBr) and gain detailed insights into the density of occupied states (DOS) in the valence band and band gap. A valence band model is established which includes the parabolic valence band edge and an exponentially decaying band tail in a single equation. This allows us to precisely determine two valence band maxima (VBM) at different -vectors in the angle-integrated spectra, where the highest one, resulting from the VBM at the -point in the Brillouin zone, is found between -1.

Objectives: To assess pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic outcomes of a novel copper (Cu) intrauterine system (IUS) releasing ulipristal acetate (UPA) in healthy women.

Study Design: In this single-blinded, randomized proof-of-concept study, ovulatory women received one of three Cu-IUSs releasing low-dose UPA (5, 20 or 40 µg/d) for 12 weeks. The study included a baseline cycle, three 4-week treatment-cycles and 2 recovery cycles.

The increasingly frequent cutaneous manifestations of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) remain to pose a problem to clinicians. Herein, we aimed to describe the clinical and pathological findings of skin lesions in patients with COVID-19. The case series, which was based on the International Dermatological Registry circulated to dermatologists worldwide, was conducted across organizations and societies belonging to five different countries.

The development of scalable deposition methods for perovskite solar cell materials is critical to enable the commercialization of this nascent technology. Herein, we investigate the use and processing of nanoparticle SnO films as electron transport layers in perovskite solar cells and develop deposition methods for ultrasonic spray coating and slot-die coating, leading to photovoltaic device efficiencies over 19%. The effects of postprocessing treatments (thermal annealing, UV ozone, and O plasma) are then probed using structural and spectroscopic techniques to characterize the nature of the np-SnO/perovskite interface.

In this work, we propose a method to retrieve the thickness and optical constants of dielectric thin films from single optical transmittance measurements. The method is based on the envelope method and requires a simple dispersion model for the real part of the refractive index with few fitting parameters, while the absorption coefficient can be determined without the aid of a dispersion model. The wavelength-dependent optical constants can be obtained even from spectra that exhibit few interference fringes.

Several studies have suggested that () infection is a risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC), while others have not confirmed this hypothesis. This work aimed to assess the relation of CRC with seropositivity and with seropositivity to 16 proteins, in the MultiCase-Control study, MCC-Spain. MCC-Spain is a multicase-control study carried out in Spain from 2008 to 2013.
