Background: Identifying patients with mutations is clinically important to inform on the potential response to treatment and for risk management of patients and their relatives. However, traditional referral routes may not meet clinical needs, and therefore, mainstreaming cancer genetics has been shown to be effective in some high-income and high health-literacy settings. To date, no study has reported on the feasibility of mainstreaming in low-income and middle-income settings, where the service considerations and health literacy could detrimentally affect the feasibility of mainstreaming.

Introduction: Hypoglycaemia constitutes a significant barrier to achieving glycaemic control with insulin in both Type 1 (T1DM) and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The International Operations Hypoglycaemia Assessment Tool (IO HAT) study was designed to determine the incidence of hypoglycaemia in insulin-treated patients with T1DM and T2DM.

Methods: The IO HAT study retrospectively and prospectively assessed the incidence of hypoglycaemia in patients with insulin-treated diabetes mellitus in nine countries.

Approximately 25% of all cases of extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) occur in the head and neck region; NHL of the external auditory canal (EAC) and thyroid gland are rare. Specific immunohistochemical staining of the excised tissue is required to confirm the final pathologic diagnosis. We report the case of a 53-year-old woman with underlying systemic lupus erythematosus and autoimmune hemolytic anemia that were in remission.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of transmeatal low-power laser stimulation (TLLS) for treating persistent tinnitus through a double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trial with patients from outpatient clinics.
  • Participants were divided into two groups: one received the actual TLLS treatment along with betahistine, while the other group used a placebo device and also took the same medication for 10 weeks.
  • Although both groups showed improvement in tinnitus symptoms, comparing the TLLS+ group with the TLLS- group revealed no statistically significant difference in treatment outcomes.

Plasmon coupling is known to enhance the two-photon excitation photoluminescence of metal nanoparticles significantly. Here, Au and Ag nanospheres of different sizes were prepared to systematically investigate the effects of particle size on plasmon coupling enhanced two-photon excitation photoluminescence. An oppositely charged polyelectrolyte, poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA), was used to induce the coupling of Au and Ag nanospheres.

Choanal stenosis is a well recognized late complication of radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However velopharyngeal stenosis post radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma is rare. We present here a case of bilateral choanal stenosis and velopharyngeal stenosis in a patient treated with radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
