Graft versus host disease after liver transplantation: A case report.

Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD) is a severe immunological-clinicopathological condition mediated by healthy T-lymphocytes in donor tissue against the immunosuppressed host tissue and rarely seen after solid organ transplantation (SOT). A 72-year old male patient underwent cadaveric liver transplantation. On day 34 of the postoperative follow-up, the patient developed fever, generalized skin rash and hemorrhagic lesions in the oropharynx.

Burkitt lymphoma with a granulomatous reaction: an M1/Th1-polarised microenvironment is associated with controlled growth and spontaneous regression.

Aims: Burkitt lymphoma (BL) is an aggressive B-cell lymphoma that, in some instances, may show a granulomatous reaction associated with a favourable prognosis and occasional spontaneous regression. In the present study, we aimed to define the tumour microenvironment (TME) in four such cases, two of which regressed spontaneously.

Methods And Results: All cases showed aggregates of tumour cells with the typical morphology, molecular cytogenetics and immunophenotype of BL surrounded by a florid epithelioid granulomatous reaction.

Successful treatment of BCG-related immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome following ex vivo T-cell-depleted haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: A case report.

IRIS is a phenomenon describing localized inflammatory reactions at BCG vaccination site and development of lymphadenopathy as immune system recovers. It is a rare entity in children following haploidentical HSCT. We represent the successful treatment of a case with fluctuating lymphadenopathy due to BCG vaccine during immune reconstitution period following ex vivo T-cell-depleted haploidentical HSCT.

Immune Thrombocytopenia in a Child with Neuroblastoma.

Thrombocytopenia is a frequent finding in patients with solid tumors. It is usually caused by bone marrow infiltration or by myelosuppression due to anticancer therapy; however immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) associated with solid tumors is rare. Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor in children.

Complete Remission of Burkitt Lymphoma After Surgical Excision: A Case Report.

Burkitt lymphoma (BL) is a highly aggressive B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that has a high proliferation rate. The prognosis for BL is generally favorable, with cure rate of 75-90 % with modern chemoimmunotherapy regimens. Prompt administration of multiagent immunochemotherapy regimens is critical, because BL is almost always fatal if left untreated.

Nonleukemic ureteral granulocytic sarcoma presenting with unilateral urinary obstruction and hematuria.

Granulocytic sarcoma is an extramedullary tumor which is composed of myeloblasts and immature myeloid cells. It usually occurs in association with acute myeloid leukemia and most commonly involves skin, soft tissue, lymph nodes, bone, and periosteum. We report a case of isolated ureteral granulocytic sarcoma without hematologic manifestations.

Is valganciclovir really effective in primary effusion lymphoma: case report of an HIV(-) EBV(-) HHV8(+) patient.

Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is a human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8) associated lymphoproliferative disease characterized by effusions in body cavities, and lack of tumor mass. Valganciclovir is a treatment option in PEL, however, little is known about its clinical efficacy. Ganciclovir has been reported to be effective in HHV8(+) multicentric Castleman's disease (MCD) by decreasing the plasma HHV8 load, which is an important factor in the induction and persistence of MCD, Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), and PEL.

An unusual presentation of a chronic lymphocytic leukemia patient with 17p deletion after reduced-intensity transplantation: Richter syndrome and concomitant graft-versus-host disease--case report.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients with 17p deletion comprise a challenging subgroup associated with poor overall survival. These patients should be treated with alternative strategies. Reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) can achieve long-term remission in this ultra-high-risk CLL group.

Precursor B cell lymphoblastic lymphoma presenting as a solitary bone tumor: a case report and review of the literature.

Precursor B cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (B-LBL) is quite uncommon and it usually manifests as an extranodal disease. Although B-LBL may present with bone involvement, it is a very rare manifestation of B-LBL as a primary solitary bone tumor. Here, we report a case of precursor B-LBL presenting with solitary bone tumor and a review of a total of seven adult patients reported previously in the literature.

Expression and prognostic significance of Cox-2 and p-53 in Hodgkin lymphomas: a retrospective study.

Background: Cyclooxygenase (cox) is the rate-limiting enzyme, which catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins and contributes to the inflammatory process. Cyclooxygenase-2 (cox-2), which is one of the two isoforms, plays a role in tumor progression and carcinogenesis. p53 contributes to apoptosis, DNA renewal and cell cycle.

A case of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease misdiagnosed as Hodgkin's lymphoma: the importance of second opinion.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), a rare clinicopathological entity, is a benign and self-limiting disease. It was first described in 1972 by Kikuchi and Fujimoto in Japan independently. KFD is prevalent in Asia, although it may be seen in wide geographical areas, including Turkey.

Aim: Atypical adenomatous hyperplasia (AAH) is a small glandular proliferation that has histological similarities with Gleason grade 1 and 2 prostatic adenocarcinoma (PACG1,2). There are no distinct histomorphological criteria distinguishing these two lesions from each other and other small glandular proliferations. Because treatment approaches are different for these lesions, it is necessary to determine histological criteria.

Acute megakaryoblastic leukemia mimicking small round cell tumor with novel t(1;5)(q21;p13).

Acute megakaryoblastic leukemia is a relatively rare form of acute leukemia that has heterogeneous blast morphology and karyotypic abnormalities. An 8-month-old boy with a retroperitoneal mass was diagnosed as having acute megakaryoblastic leukemia that initially presented as small round cell tumor of childhood. Bone marrow aspiration showed syncytial groups of atypical medium sized cells with scant cytoplasm and fine nuclear chromatin.

False positivity of FDG-PET/CT in a child with Hodgkin disease.

Role of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) with F-18-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) in staging of Hodgkin disease is well established despite several controversies. We report a Stage III Hodgkin lymphoma patient with false positive FDG-PET/CT results. Seven-year-old male with Hodgkin lymphoma was in remission at end of chemotherapy.

Nasopharyngeal presentation of Hodgkin's disease (HD) is an uncommon event with relatively favorable prognosis. It is predominantly seen in males and most papers are case reports. Here, we report an unusual case in a female patient with stage IA(E)HD treated by radiotherapy (RT), and achieving complete disease remission, lasting 26(+) months.

Bone quality in swine composite tissue allografts: effects of combination immunotherapy.

Background: Tacrolimus (FK506)/mycophenolate mofetil (MMF)/prednisone combination immunosuppression therapy has been found to effectively prevent composite tissue allograft (CTA) rejection with minimal toxicity in a preclinical porcine model. These findings have been reproduced in 24 human hands transplanted in 18 patients. In CTAs containing bone, adequate bone quality and healing are essential for long-term functional success.

Ischemic preconditioning of skeletal muscle: duration of late-phase protection.

Background: The time course of the late phase of ischemic preconditioning (IPC) was determined in latissimus dorsi muscle (LDM) flaps using viability and function as the endpoints.

Materials And Methods: LDM flaps from Sprague-Dawley rats were allocated into 6 groups. LDMs were preconditioned with 2 30-minute periods of ischemia separated by 10 minutes of reperfusion and subjected to a 4-hour ischemic insult after 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours from IPC.
