Self-compression of attosecond high-order harmonic pulses in the harmonic generation medium itself has been demonstrated. The attosecond pulses were generated in an argon-filled gas cell and compressed by exploiting the dispersion characteristics of argon. Since the harmonic generation medium itself was used as the compression medium, continuous chirp control was easily achieved by adjusting the gas pressure.

We have stabilized and electronically controlled the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) of high-power femtosecond laser pulses, generated in a grating-based chirped-pulse amplification kHz Ti:sapphire laser, using the direct locking technique [Opt. Express 13, 2969 (2005)] combined with a slow feedback loop. An f-2f spectral interferometer has shown the CEP stabilities of 1.

The protein encoded by the Drosophila pair-rule gene fushi tarazu (ftz) is required for the formation of the even-numbered parasegments. Here we analyze the phenotypes of ectopic expression of FTZ and FTZ protein deletions from the Tubulin alpha1 (Tubalpha1) promoter. Fusion of ftz to the Tubalpha1 promoter resulted in low-level ectopic expression of FTZ relative to FTZ expressed from the endogenous ftz gene.
