Background: Uncertainty exists regarding the best treatment for acute Achilles tendon ruptures. Simultaneous comparison of the multiple treatment options using traditional study designs is problematic; multiarm clinical trials often are logistically constrained to small sample sizes, and traditional meta-analyses are limited to comparisons of only two treatments that have been compared in head-to-head trials. Network meta-analyses allow for simultaneous comparison of all existing treatments utilizing both direct (head-to-head comparison) and indirect (not previously compared head-to-head) evidence.

The marine compound and elongation factor 1A1 inhibitor, didemnin B, provides benefit in western diet-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Inhibition of eukaryotic elongation factor 1A1 (EEF1A1) with the marine compound didemnin B decreases lipotoxic HepG2 cell death in vitro and improves early stage non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in young genetically obese mice. However, the effects of didemnin B on NAFLD in a model of long-term diet-induced obesity are not known. We investigated the effects of didemnin B on NAFLD severity and metabolic parameters in western diet-induced obese mice, and on the cell types that contribute to liver inflammation and fibrosis in vitro.

Combined Tibial Tubercle Fracture With Patellar Tendon Avulsion in an Adult: A Rare Case and Novel Fixation Technique.

Tibial tubercle avulsion fracture with simultaneous patellar tendon avulsion is a rare injury that has only ever been reported in adolescents; the diagnosis and management of this combined lesion has not been described in the adult population. A healthy 62-year-old male presented with acute knee pain and an inability to walk after a fall on ice. Radiographs demonstrated a displaced fracture of the tibial tubercle; patellar tendon integrity could not be verified by ultrasonography.

Does an Increased Critical Shoulder Angle Affect Re-tear Rates and Clinical Outcomes Following Primary Rotator Cuff Repair? A Systematic Review.

Purpose: To determine if an increased critical shoulder angle (CSA) predisposes patients to higher re-tear rates and worse clinical outcomes after rotator cuff (RC) repair.

Methods: A comprehensive search of the PubMed, MEDLINE, and EMBASE databases was performed in October 2018 for English-language studies pertaining to RC repair and an increased CSA in accordance with Preferred Reported Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines. Studies of all levels of evidence were included provided that any outcomes, including pain, patient-reported outcomes, and re-tear rates, were reported.
