Background: Do Not Attempt Resuscitation (DNAR) orders allow patients with life-threatening conditions to decline resuscitation efforts should the need arise. The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) recommends discussions with patients on their code status to clarify and honor their goals of care perioperatively. This project sought to determine the prevalence of DNAR orders and to identify the demographics and potential clinical predictors of DNAR status at the beginning and end of admission, which would help anesthesiologists at our center facilitate these discussions.

Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is an eating disorder recently codified in that affects individuals of all ages. A proliferation of ARFID research has emerged over the years, and this review provides a brief overview of the current understanding of ARFID epidemiology, symptoms, comorbid conditions, assessment, and treatment. The review highlights recent research updates regarding ARFID among adults, putative neurobiological mechanisms underlying ARFID, and new treatment trials.

Background: Deeply engaging with the expertise of those who have experienced or supported someone with an eating disorder can add to a growing body of knowledge about recovery processes. In this qualitative study, we sought to explore and generate nuanced understandings of recovery experiences of people with a lived ED experience (first hand or as a caregiver) who were working as mentors in the field. To do this, we focused on changes that occur in personality, traits, and interests over the course of an eating disorder and into recovery.

Background: Eating disorders (ED) are serious mental illnesses affecting young adults (YA). Parent-supported treatment for this age cohort is an important consideration given the unique developmental needs and norms of familial social support, but more research is needed to understand parental perceptions of treatment involvement.

Methods: 33 parent-supports of YA with ED completed self-report assessments at admission and discharge of participation in brief, intensive, young-adult focused eating disorder treatment.

Strong ethnic identity is recognized as a protective factor against body image concern and eating pathology in Black women as they tend to hold cultural values in line with an acceptance of a variety of body shapes and sizes. Reinforcement of these cultural ideals may occur via same-race peer relationships. The current study examined the mediating role of same-race versus other-race peers in the relationship between ethnic identity and body appreciation in Black women.

Purpose: Research and clinical experience suggest that individuals with anorexia nervosa (AN) have deficits in gastric interoception, which has been hypothesized to maintain restrictive eating. Behavioral water load tasks (WLTs) have the capability to noninvasively assess gastric interoception; however, to date, no studies have examined WLTs in AN. Thus, the present proof-of-concept pilot study explored the preliminary validity of a WLT in individuals with AN.

The use of intravenous (IV) acetaminophen (APAP) for fever has not been thoroughly studied in neurocritical care (NCC) patients, in whom a temperature of ≥38°C is associated with poor outcomes and treatment to normothermia is common practice. This retrospective study evaluated NCC patients admitted between May 1, 2012, and April 30, 2013, and received at least one dose of IV or oral (PO) APAP for a body temperature of ≥38°C. The primary aim of this study was to compare the reduction in body temperature (RIT) between IV and PO APAP, calculated as the change in temperature before and 0.

There is a critical need to identify processes that may influence outcome in existing treatments for eating disorders (EDs). Intolerance of uncertainty (IU), which refers to excessive distress regarding uncertain situations, is a well-established feature of anxiety disorders. Emerging work suggests that IU decreases over the course of cognitive-behavioral treatments and may relate to better treatment outcomes.
