Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Outcomes Among Long-Term Survivors of Childhood Cancer: A Scoping Review.

The five-year survival rate of childhood cancer has increased substantially over the past 50 yr; however, racial/ethnic disparities in health outcomes of survival have not been systematically reviewed. This scoping review summarized health disparities between racial/ethnic minorities (specifically non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic) and non-Hispanic White childhood cancer survivors, and elucidated factors that may explain disparities in health outcomes. We used the terms "race", "ethnicity", "childhood cancer", "pediatric cancer", and "survivor" to search the title and abstract for the articles published in PubMed and Scopus from inception to February 2021.

Sex differences in renal handling of inorganic mercury in aged rats.

The sex of an individual/animal has been shown to play an important role in many biological processes. Furthermore, sex may also be a factor in the way environmental toxicants, such as heavy metals, are handled by organisms. However, the effect of sex on the handling and disposition of heavy metals, such as mercury (Hg), has not been shown.

Co-administration of Selenium with Inorganic Mercury Alters the Disposition of Mercuric Ions in Rats.

Mercury (Hg) is a common environmental toxicant to which humans are exposed regularly through occupational and dietary means. Although selenium supplementation has been reported to prevent the toxic effects of Hg in animals, the mechanisms for this prevention are not well understood. The purpose of the current study was to determine the effects of selenium on the disposition and toxicity of Hg.

Athletic Pubalgia Secondary to Rectus Abdominis-Adductor Longus Aponeurotic Plate Injury: Diagnosis, Management, and Operative Treatment of 100 Competitive Athletes.

Background: A rectus abdominis-adductor longus (RA-AL) aponeurotic plate injury, commonly associated with athletic pubalgia, sports hernia, or a core muscle injury, causes significant dysfunction in athletes. Increased recognition of this specific injury distinct from inguinal hernia abnormalities has led to better management of this debilitating condition.

Hypothesis: Surgical repair of RA-AL aponeurotic plate injuries will result in decreased symptoms and high rates of return to play.

Intraoperative Evaluation of the Anatomic Lateral Distal Femoral Angle and Its Variation due to Positioning.

Background/purpose: Preoperative evaluation of the contralateral anatomic lateral distal femoral angle (aLDFA) at our institution is used to judge coronal plane alignment. In our study, we investigated 4 different techniques for obtaining an anteroposterior intraoperative fluoroscopic image of the distal femur to determine which technique provides (1) the greatest interobserver reliability; (2) the lowest variability from the previously published population mean; and (3) the lowest side-to-side variability.

Methods: Inclusion criteria included lower extremity injuries needing fixation that required intraoperative fluoroscopy with an intact femur and an intact extensor mechanism (N = 100).
