Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer-affecting women globally, with disproportionally high mortality rates in lower-income countries, including Ethiopia. The stage at diagnosis is a well-defined predictive system that determines the likelihood of breast cancer mortality. Early-stage breast cancer at diagnosis is associated with better treatment outcomes as compared with late stage.

Systemic racism embedded within the US health care system results in disproportionately worse health outcomes for Black pediatric patients and their caregivers. One meaningful mechanism through which these health disparities persist is through discriminatory treatment and anti-Black bias from clinicians. Strengthening care provided to Black pediatric patients and their caregivers requires that clinicians adopt culturally tailored communication strategies that promote health equity and counter racism.

Context: The Presence for Racial Justice project leverages the Stanford Presence 5 framework to present anti-racism communication practices that promote clinician trust-building for Black patients in primary care. With the racial/ethnic disparities in COVID-19 infection rates, an assessment of Black patients' perspectives around COVID-19 care is required to promote health equity in current and future health crises. There is an urgent need to better understand the pathophysiology of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the global pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, which has infected more than three million people worldwide. Approximately 20% of patients with COVID-19 develop severe disease and 5% of patients require intensive care. Severe disease has been associated with changes in peripheral immune activity, including increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines that may be produced by a subset of inflammatory monocytes, lymphopenia and T cell exhaustion.

There is an urgent need to better understand the pathophysiology of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the global pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2. Here, we apply single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of 7 patients hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 and 6 healthy controls. We identify substantial reconfiguration of peripheral immune cell phenotype in COVID-19, including a heterogeneous interferon-stimulated gene (ISG) signature, HLA class II downregulation, and a novel B cell-derived granulocyte population appearing in patients with acute respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation.

Copy toner samples were analyzed using reflection-absorption infrared microscopy (R-A IR). The grouping of copy toners into distinguishable classes achieved by visual comparison and computer-assisted spectral matching was compared to that achieved by multivariate discriminant analysis. For a data set containing spectra of 430 copy toners, 90% (388/430) of the spectra were initially correctly grouped into the classifications previously established by spectral matching.

Microscopical reflection-absorption by infrared spectroscopy (R-A IR) was shown as a viable technique for analyzing the polymer resins contained in dry, black photocopy and printer toners. The sampling technique involves a heat transfer of the toner from a document to the reflective surface of aluminum foil followed by analysis by R-A IR. The technique is simple, fast, and readily available to most forensic laboratories.
