The aim of this study was to analyse the influence of AMI on short-term outcomes and all relevant risk factors of in-hospital mortality after cardiac surgery. Moreover, we aimed to investigate the role of opioids and lactic acid in the detection and prevention of AMI.

Brazilian Society of Surgical Oncology consensus on fertility-sparing surgery for cervical cancer.

Objective: Several controversies remain on conservative management of cervical cancer. Our aim was to develop a consensus recommendation on important and novel topics of fertility-sparing treatment of cervical cancer.

Methods: The consensus was sponsored by the Brazilian Society of Surgical Oncology (BSSO) from March 2020 to September 2020 and included a multidisciplinary team of 55 specialists.

Metreleptin therapy for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis: Open-label therapy interventions in two different clinical settings.

Background: Recombinant leptin therapy reverses nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in leptin-deficient lipodystrophy. We inquired if leptin therapy would improve nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in more common forms of this heterogeneous condition.

Methods: Nine male patients with relative leptin deficiency (level < 25th percentile of body mass index- and gender-matched United States population) and biopsy-proven NASH and 23 patients with partial lipodystrophy and NASH were recruited for two distinctive open-label trials.

We have created the immunodeficient SRG rat, a Sprague-Dawley Rag2/Il2rg double knockout that lacks mature B cells, T cells, and circulating NK cells. Background: Approximately 70% of cancer-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. In addition to social and racial inequalities, treatment options in these countries are usually limited because of the lack of trained staff and equipment, limited patient access to health services, and a small number of clinical guidelines.

Objectives: The Brazilian Society of Surgical Oncology developed this guideline to address these barriers and guide physicians treating patients with endometrial cancer (EC) in regions with limited resources and few specialized centers.

Background And Objectives: The primary treatment for locally advanced cases of cervical cancer is chemoradiation followed by high-dose brachytherapy. When this treatment fails, pelvic exenteration (PE) is an option in some cases. This study aimed to develop recommendations for the best management of patients with cervical cancer undergoing salvage PE.

Vein Graft Interposition: A Training Model Using Gradually Thawed Cryopreserved Vessels.

Introduction: Microsurgical interposition of vein grafts is an extraordinarily filigree surgical technique, which requires both sound theoretical knowledge and solid manual skills. Although there are a large number of training models, the majority of these are either relatively expensive, technically complex, or employ synthetic materials with poor resemblance to human tissue. The authors' model allows training of ex vivo vein graft interposition on gradually thawed cryopreserved vessels and it, therefore, is cost-efficient and readily available when needed.

Evaluating interpretation discrepancies in copy number variants (CNVs) typically involves assessing overlapping genomic content with focus on genes/regions that may be subject to dosage sensitivity (haploinsufficiency (HI) and/or triplosensitivity (TS)). CNVs containing dosage sensitive genes/regions are generally interpreted as "likely pathogenic" (LP) or "pathogenic" (P), and CNVs involving the same known dosage sensitive gene(s) should receive the same clinical interpretation.

A novel microsurgical anastomosis training model using gradually thawed cryopreserved microvessels of rat cadavers.

In consideration of the 3-R-rule (Refine-Replace-Reduce) as a guideline for promoting ethical use of animals for surgical training, we present a novel training model for microvessel anastomosis. In a rat cadaveric study, we evaluated the surgical anatomy of the common carotid artery (CCA), external jugular vein (EJV) and femoral vessels (FV) which were then used as templates for the present investigation. Anatomical dissection of 30 rat cadavers was performed.

Potential association of LMNA-associated generalized lipodystrophy with juvenile dermatomyositis.

Background: Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) is an auto-immune muscle disease which presents with skin manifestations and muscle weakness. At least 10% of the patients with JDM present with acquired lipodystrophy. Laminopathies are caused by mutations in the lamin genes and cover a wide spectrum of diseases including muscular dystrophies and lipodystrophy.
