A study at Ali Abad Teaching Hospital evaluated how well COPD patients correctly used their inhalers, finding high rates of misuse across various inhalation devices, particularly the Respimat with a misuse rate of 97.7%.
Out of 318 patients, common errors included failing to take a deep breath or hold it after inhalation for pMDIs, while exhaling fully was most often incorrectly done for the pMDI with spacer and Respimat.
Females and literate patients tended to misuse inhalers less, emphasizing the need for thorough education on proper inhaler techniques to improve medication usage and patient outcomes.
