Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of distress screening methods in identifying financial hardship (FH) among gynecologic cancer patients compared to a dedicated FH screening approach.
  • The research involved screening 364 patients using both distress measures and specialized financial assessments, revealing that the distress screening had moderate sensitivity (57%) but high specificity (77%) for detecting FH.
  • Results indicated that 24% of patients screened positive for FH, emphasizing the need for dedicated screening since many affected individuals might not be identified through distress screening alone.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated breastfeeding practices among mothers with maternal cardiac disease, categorizing them by area deprivation index (ADI) to identify communities at higher risk for lower breastfeeding rates.
  • - A total of 148 patients were analyzed, revealing that those from high ADI areas were generally younger and less likely to be in a partnership, yet their breastfeeding intent at admission was similar across all ADI groups.
  • - While there were no significant differences in breastfeeding rates at discharge, significant disparities were observed at postpartum visits, with resource-poor community members experiencing higher rates of early breastfeeding cessation, suggesting the need for targeted interventions.

Despite effective screening strategies and the development and implementation of prophylactic high-risk human papillomavirus vaccination, cervical cancer remains a significant public health burden. This burden is most pronounced in under-resourced countries without fully developed screening and vaccination programs, although the disease remains present worldwide, including in industrialized countries. To that end, the World Health Organization (WHO) has an active focus on the elimination of cervical cancer, with objective metrics to be achieved by countries by the year 2030.

In the USA, endometrial cancer (EMCA) incidence is increasing as the risk factors of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension become more prevalent. Although most EMCA is detected at an early stage and surgical intervention is curative, a subset of patients termed 'high-intermediate risk' (H-IR) experience an increased rate of recurrence. Unfortunately, adjuvant therapies in patients with H-IR EMCA have yet to increase overall survival.
