Since 1986, the author has been performing a modified Pemberton acetabuloplasty (MPA) with the deliberate aim of producing a greenstick fracture at the sciatic notch. This procedure was performed in 16 girls representing 17 hips. Nine hips (eight patients) were dislocated.

The effects of these ESA on the host cell function may participate in the establishment of a successful infection, in which the parasite persists for a sufficient period of time to complete its life cycle. A number of regulatory components or processes originating from the parasite that control or regulate the metabolism and the growth of host cell have been identified.

Deposits of dipolar particles are investigated by means of extensive Monte Carlo simulations. We found that the effect of the interactions is described by an initial, nonuniversal, scaling regime characterized by orientationally ordered deposits. In the dipolar regime, the order and geometry of the clusters depend on the strength of the interactions and the magnetic properties are tunable by controlling the growth conditions.

All compounds showed a dose dependent inhibitory effect on mouse and human T cell proliferation induced by the mitogens, with BNIPPut exhibiting the most potent antiproliferative activity, followed by BNIPSpd and by BNIPSpm, respectively (Put > Spd > Spm), when considering human T cells. This suppressive activity also affects the capacity of mouse spleen cells to produce Th1 cytokines, namely IL-2 and INF-gamma after in vitro stimulation with Con A.

Four known alkaloids, roemerine, guadiscine, liriodenine and cleistopholine were also isolated. The structures of the novel compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, including 2D NMR and MS.

Methods: We prospectively studied 46 patients (24 females) with unstable angina and 46 control patients (19 males), paired by sex and age, blinded to the laboratory data. Details of diets, smoking habits, medication used, body mass index, and the presence of hypertension and diabetes were recorded, as were plasma lipid and glucose levels, C-reactive protein, and lipoperoxidation in all participants.

We studied a quasi-two-dimensional dipolar fluid in the chaining regime using Monte Carlo canonical simulations and theoretical analyses. The self-assembled clusters were characterized by measuring their internal energy, conformational properties, and equilibrium length distributions. We generalized and used equilibrium polymer theory to describe the structure of the chains and rings observed in the simulations.

In SGC the MSI phenotype has been associated with hMLH1 promoter hypermethylation. Fifty-seven SGC, classified as high-frequency MSI (MSI-H), low-frequency MSI (MSI-L), and microsatellite stable (MSS), were analyzed for hMLH1 promoter methylation status and clinicopathological features.

We present a series of 44 patients with iatrogenic vascular lesions that result from arterial and venous catheterizations and surgical interventions. The arterial catheterization for coronariography and arteriography and orthopaedic surgery were the agents that most frequently caused vascular injury.

In laboratory bioassays we tested the susceptibility of this insect to entomopathogenic nematodes isolated in Azores: Steinernema carpocapsae Az20, Az150, and A48 strains, S. glaseri Az26 strain and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora Az33 strain.

Methods: From 1990 to 1992, we studied fasting homocysteinemia levels on a group of 112 patients aged under 56 years that had suffered a myocardial infarction between 3 and 12 months before.
The effect of hexoses (glucose and galactose) addition to the feed xylose mineral medium of Debaryomyces hansenii chemostat cultures grown at a constant dilution rate of 0.055 h(-1) was studied. Xylitol was the major product detected amongst all tested conditions.

This research has as objects of study the conceptions and expectations of the clinical nurses in psychiatric institutions about the research developed in this area. It has the purpose to identify conceptions and expectations, enabling the identification of the process of dissemination and utilization of the research in the attention and administration of psychiatric nursing care. It was developed with nurses that work in psychiatric institutions at Salvador, in March, 1997.
