Breast Cancer Management Consensus By The Society of Surgeons and Surgical Oncology Society of Pakistan.

The Society of Surgeons of Pakistan and The Society of Surgical Oncology of Pakistan with factions from various major centres comprising of surgical oncology, medical and radiation oncology collaborated to reach consensus on breast cancer management guidelines and a framework of "good practice" minimum standards of care. The aim of the task force was to enhance treatment standards, which have a direct correlation with improving patient mortality and morbidity and long-term survival whilst taking into consideration economic limitations of access to leading centers of excellence as well as minimum expertise required in health care. These multidisciplinary guidelines, whilst not exhaustive, aim to provide an algorithm of care for breast cancer patients at tertiary care centres and district level hospitals to provide most appropriate treatment.

Preventable morbidities of a successful intervention, Textiloma/Gossypiboma: A case series.

Preventable morbidities are serious conditions that have the potential to cause serious harm or death of the patient. One of the preventable morbidities is Gossypiboma or involuntary leaving of surgical sponge inside the body. The implication for the patient and the surgeon is grave.

Two-Year Experiences of 500 Appendectomies in Lahore General Hospital, Lahore.

Introduction Acute appendicitis is a leading cause of abdominal conditions in emergency departments. Evidence from research studies has indicated the efficacies of surgical procedures involving appendectomies. However, in Pakistan, there is a paucity of information regarding the epidemiology, clinical presentations, and surgical management of acute appendicitis.

Referral writing: Consensus building on a tool for writing structured referrals.

Competency in referral writing skill is needed by doctors for which they are not adequately trained. Although there has been a lot of discussion on improvement of skills for writing consultation letters, still priority is not given to this important task. Ideally there should be a course with assessment for teaching and learning medical referral writing skills for students.

An atypical presentation of small bowel adenocarcinoma; a case report.

Small bowel malignancy (SBM) is a rare malignancy in the gastrointestinal tract. Duodenum is the most commonly involved segment and the most common histological subtype is adenocarcinoma (40%). Due to a lack of screening tools and vague symptoms, its clinical detection is very challenging.

Occupational trauma in carpentry is common in our society due to lack of awareness on occupational safety and poor availability and adherence towards protective equipment. Given below is an unusual case of a young carpenter who presented in the orthopaedic outpatient department with complaint of difficulty in walking for the last four days. On examination, restricted movement of the hip joint on extension was observed.

Thoughtful surgical practice for therapeutic self: A randomized control trial.

Objectives: To determine the role of structured reflection in teaching basic surgical skills in undergraduate students.

Methods: A randomized control trial was done in two medical colleges of Punjab, from January to December 2017 in which participants were divided into two groups through stratified random sampling. Structured reflection was done by interventional group after training.
