Traditional biological detection methods rely on signal amplification strategies such as enzymatic catalysis or nucleic acid amplification. However, their efficiency decreases in low-temperature environments, compromising their detection sensitivity. To break the loss of enzyme catalytic activity at low temperatures, research on cold-adaptive nanozymes has attracted much attention.

The backgrinding of silicon (Si) wafers has resulted in a loss of ∼70% of valuable Si materials. Consequently, an effluent known as diluted backgrinding wastewater (DBGW) is generated, containing nanosized silicon/silica colloids. Here, we discussed the challenges associated with the effective separation of Si-based waste from the DBGW based upon two perspectives, namely, a nanosized effect and a colloidal stability effect.

Postoperative abdominal adhesions are the leading cause of bowel obstruction and a cause of chronic pain and infertility. Adhesion formation occurs after 50 to 90% of abdominal operations and has no proven preventative or treatment strategy. Abdominal adhesions derive primarily from the visceral peritoneum and are composed of polyclonally proliferating tissue-resident fibroblasts.

Searching for land refugia becomes imperative for human survival during the hypothetical sixth mass extinction. Studying past comparable crises can offer insights, but there is no fossil evidence of diverse megafloral ecosystems surviving the largest Phanerozoic biodiversity crisis. Here, we investigated palynomorphs, plant, and tetrapod fossils from the Permian-Triassic South Taodonggou Section in Xinjiang, China.

Surface-catalyzed polymerization is crucial in both chemical science and industrial manufacturing, yet achieving regioselective radical polymerization on the surface remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate the regioselective Ullmann polymerization of nonsymmetrical 2,8-dibromoquinoline (DBQ) on an Au(111) surface. By combining scanning tunneling microscopy, density functional theory calculations, and kinetic modeling, we reveal the regioselectivity and its evolution with surface temperature at the molecular level.

How does swine insurance affect the swine production efficiency in China? We focus on micro-survey data from 582 swine farmers in Liaoning Province, and uses the propensity score matching method (PSM) and mediated effects model for the empirical examination. The results indicate that swine insurance positively impacts production efficiency, compared to uninsured farmers, those who participate in swine insurance exhibit a 4.7% improvement in production efficiency.

Context: TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCNFs) show significant potential for developing high-performance resistive humidity sensors due to their hydrophilicity and structural adaptability. However, the underlying atomic-scale mechanisms governing their humidity response remain poorly understood. Using molecular dynamics simulations, this study investigates how crystal facets, nanopore widths, and humidity levels influence the surface wettability, water permeability, and swelling of TOCNFs.

Unlabelled: The diversity patterns and drivers of soil microbial communities across spatial distances have been extensively investigated over the recent years. However, whether microbial communities in surface and subsurface soils showed an identical spatial distribution pattern at a small regional scale has not been fully confirmed. For this, we investigated the linkage between soil water content (SWC), pH as well as nutrient contents and soil bacterial diversity and communities in different soil layers in the Longmenshan fault zone in Sichuan Province, China.

Introduction: Engaging in physical activity is commonly regarded as beneficial to health. However, exercise addiction may arise when enthusiasm for exercise reaches a level that disrupts life balance and overall well-being. Factors influencing college students' exercise addiction remain largely unknown.

Unlabelled: To investigate the mechanism of pod dehiscence in adzuki bean, RNA sequencing was utilized to analyze transcriptomes in the ventral and dorsal sutures of pods from two dehiscence-resistant accessions and two dehiscence-susceptible accessions. A total of 943 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. Through the Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) metabolic enrichment pathways, 34 genes related to pod dehiscence were identified.

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a global health concern, particularly affecting women and children of reproductive age. Although oral iron supplements are the standard treatment for IDA, their bioavailability is often compromised by food interactions, and they are associated with significant gastrointestinal side effects. To overcome these limitations, we developed a novel iron nano-supplement, TA-Fe NPs, based on metal-polyphenol networks (MPNs) formed through the coordination of tannic acid (TA) and Fe.

Diabetic infected bone defect remains a great challenge in clinical practice, with delayed healing characterized by bacterial infection and cellular disfunction caused by oxidative stress. Hence, a novel self-healing multifunctional Ag@PEG-4OI/EXO hydrogel is introduced for improving healing of diabetic infected bone defect. 4-octyl itaconate, a derivative of the metabolite itaconate, has been proved that which performs antioxidant and mitochondria-protected properties.

Introduction: Esophageal cancer presents significant challenges due to the limited efficacy and severe side effects associated with conventional treatments. The identification of epigenetic regulatory molecules that are aberrantly expressed in tumors is crucial for elucidating the mechanisms underlying the development and progression of esophageal cancer.

Methods: We performed high-throughput methylation level analysis on cancerous and adjacent tissues from 25 patients, identifying the differentially methylated gene utilizing Bismark software and data from TCGA.

Background: The occurrence of urinary tract or kidney infection is correlated with intelligence, noncognitive education and cognition, but the causal relationship between them remains uncertain, and which risk factors mediate this causal relationship remains unknown.

Methods: The intelligence (n=269,867), noncognitive education (n=510,795) and cognition data (n=257,700) were obtained from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) conducted in individuals of European ethnicities. The genetic associations between these factors and urinary tract or kidney infection (UK Biobank, n=397,867) were analyzed using linkage disequilibrium score regression.

There are approximately 537 million adults with diabetes worldwide, and insulin still plays an important role in its treatment. However, the long-term use of insulin imposes a significant financial burden on patients. This study aims to explore the pharmacokinetic (PK)/ pharmacodynamic (PD) parameters of generic premixed insulin lispro 25 (25% insulin lispro and 75% protamine zinc lispro) and evaluate the bio-equivalence between generic and brand-name preparations to reduce medical costs while ensuring the effectiveness and safety of treatment.

Achieving ultrahigh-color-purity circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) in low-dimensional chiral perovskites is challenging due to strong electron-phonon coupling caused by lead halide octahedral distortion. Herein, the circularly polarized piezoluminescence behaviors of six novel chiral perovskites, (/-3-XPEA)PbBr (PEA = phenethylamine; X = F, Cl, Br), were systematically investigated. Upon compression, (/-3-ClPEA)PbBr exhibits significant piezofluorochromic behaviors, transforming from yellow CPL to ultrahigh-color-purity deep-blue CPL.

Background: The ratio of the forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV) to the forced vital capacity (FVC) is an essential tool for the diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the relationship between levels of FEV/FVC and mortality in the general population remains unclear, particularly its non-linear relationship. Therefore, we aimed to explore the association between the FEV/FVC and all-cause mortality in the general population.
