Objectives: To evaluate a clinical pathway of discharge on postoperative day 3 for the tension-free vaginal mesh (TVM) procedure in patients with pelvic organ prolapse (POP).

Methods: Between May 2006 and December 2007, 305 consecutive women with POP quantification stage 3 or 4 were planned to undergo the TVM procedure in a single general hospital. Excluding five patients with concomitant hysterectomy, a pathway (removal of the indwelling urethral catheter on the next morning, discharge on postoperative day 3) was applied to the remaining 300 patients.

A man in his 70's visited the Department of Internal Medicine due to lumbago that had first appeared two months previously. Abdominal computed tomography showed a low-density area in the liver and swelling of lymph nodes surrounding the abdominal aorta. Four months later, he was hospitalized on an emergency basis in a urology ward in order to control bladder tamponade.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of a history of glaucoma and the relative safety of prescribing anticholinergics to patients with overactive bladder (OAB).

Tension-free vaginal tape (TVT), a less-invasive variation of the suburethral sling, has been rapidly gaining popularity worldwide in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence. We report on two cases of bladder stones composed of fatty acid calcium following TVT operations. Case 1: A 76-year-old woman with a history of hysterectomy due to cervical cancer was suffering from vault prolapse.

Objectives: To establish the views of urologists on the use of anticholinergic drugs for treating the overactive bladder (OAB) in patients with glaucoma.

Subjects And Methods: In February 2004 a self-description questionnaire was mailed to all 417 urologists who were members of the Tokai Society of Voiding Dysfunction, to determine current practice in Japan for patients with an OAB and glaucoma. Subgroups were analysed between the types of practice and the duration since the urologists had graduated from medical school.

We report two cases of urolithiasis related to anorexia nervosa and laxative abuse. Case 1: A 21-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of left flank pain. A left ureteral stone, 10 x 6 mm in size, was successfully fragmented by extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL), but she experienced repetitive formation of bilateral urinary stones and double J stent encrustation which required 13 sessions of ESWL, one session of transurethral ureterolithotripsy and one session of cystolithotripsy over a period of 5 years.

Purpose: We describe our experience of sling removal performed after either the Vesica sling procedure (due to vaginal erosion or at the time of reoperation for recurrent stress incontinence) or the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure (due to persistent urinary retention).

Materials And Methods: From May 1997 to December 2002, we performed 19 Vesica sling procedures and 66 TVT procedures for the treatment of urodynamic stress incontinence. In the former procedures, four patients (21%) developed vaginal erosion and underwent total or partial removal of sling material (Hemashield made from bovine-collagen-injected woven polyester).
