The glycosylation of sesamol was investigated using cultured cells of Nicotiana tabacum and Eucalyptus perriniana. The cultured suspension cells of N. tabacum converted sesamol into its beta-glucoside (7%) as well as the disaccharide, sesamyl 6-O-(beta-D-glucopyranosyl)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (beta-gentiobioside, 30%).

Daidzein was converted into two glycosylation products, daidzein 7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (39%) and daidzein 7-O-[6-O-(beta-D-glucopyranosyl)]-beta-D-glucopyranoside (beta-gentiobioside, 6%), by cultured E. perriniana cells.
