Although various tools provide proteomic information, each tool has limitations related to execution platforms, libraries, versions, and data output format. Integrating data generated from different software is a laborious process that can prolong analysis time. Here, we present FastProtein, a protein analysis pipeline that is user-friendly, easily installable, and outputs important information about subcellular location, transmembrane domains, signal peptide, molecular weight, isoelectric point, hydropathy, aromaticity, gene ontology, endoplasmic reticulum retention domains, and N-glycosylation domains.

Background And Objectives: A large cohort of pediatric patients with various forms of childhood cancer was investigated for the presence of viruses using metagenomics. A total of 476 patient samples, collected between 1989 and 2018, were analyzed, representing various pediatric oncological diagnoses and a control group of non-malignant diagnoses.

Study Design: The study was carried out using metagenomic sequencing of serum samples.

Assignment of gene function has been a crucial, laborious, and time-consuming step in genomics. Due to a variety of sequencing platforms that generates increasing amounts of data, manual annotation is no longer feasible. Thus, the need for an integrated, automated pipeline allowing the use of experimental data towards validation of prediction of gene function is of utmost relevance.

This study aimed to compare the effects of different levels of cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL) and castor oil (CNSL-castor oil) with growth-promoting antibiotics associated with anticoccidials in broiler chickens challenged with coccidiosis. In this work, 2520 one-day-old male broiler chicks (Cobb) were randomly assigned to 84 pens, containing 30 birds each. The experimental design was completely randomized, with seven treatments: enramycin (8 ppm), virginiamycin (16.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study analyzed the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and identified 23 variants, with Gamma being the most prevalent during the second wave of infections.
  • * The research provided the first evidence of regional variations in the transmission of the virus, emphasizing the need for ongoing monitoring of variants and their effects on public health.

Netherton syndrome (NS) is a rare, life-threatening syndrome caused by serine protease inhibitor Kazal-type 5 gene ( ) mutations, resulting in skin barrier defect, bacterial skin infections, and allergic sensitization in early childhood. Recent data on adult patients with NS suggest that the presence of further promotes barrier disruption and skin inflammation. We analyzed the skin microbiota by shotgun sequencing in 12 patients with NS from eight Finnish families with healthy family controls as the reference and correlated the findings with allergen-specific IgE prevalence, immune cell phenotype, and infection history of the patients.

Torque teno virus (TTV) is a group of chronically persisting viruses with a short circular DNA genome. TTV demonstrates a wide sequence diversity and a large majority of humans are chronically infected by one or more types of TTV. As TTV is ubiquitous, and viral replication correlates with immune status, TTV has been studied as a marker to assess global functional immune competence in transplant recipients.

The study aimed to evaluate a commercial blend of functional oils based on liquid from the cashew nutshell and castor oil as a growth promoter in newly weaned piglets. A total of 225 piglets, castrated males and females with 28 days of age were randomly distributed in pens with 15 animals composing three treatments and five repetitions. The treatments were: control (without the inclusion of additives), probiotics, or functional oils.

Here, we report four coding-complete severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) genome sequences from Stockholm, Sweden, sampled in late April 2020. A rare variant at bp 23463 of the SARS-CoV-2 genome was found, which corresponds to the S1 subunit of the spike protein, changing an arginine (R) residue to histidine (H).

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of supplementation with 100ppm sodium monensin or 0.15% of a blend of functional oils (cashew nut oil + castor oil) on the intestinal microbiota of broilers challenged with three different Eimeria spp. The challenge was accomplished by inoculating broiler chicks with sporulated oocysts of Eimeria tenella, Eimeria acervulina, and Eimeria maxima via oral gavage.

Citrus plants have been extremely affected by Huanglongbing (HLB) worldwide, causing economic losses. HLB disease causes disorders in citrus plants, leading to callose deposition in the phloem vessel sieve plates. Callose is synthesized by callose synthases, which are encoded by 12 genes (calS1- calS12)in Arabidopsis thaliana.
