Unlabelled: The loss of three or more subsequent pregnancies before the end of the 22nd week is observed in 0.4-1% of women. Despite great advances in medicine, the causes of pregnancy failure (miscarriages, missed abortions and stillbirths), and the birth of a child or children with congenital abnormalities, are still not determined precisely
The Aim: The purpose of the research was to determine the association of polymorphisms and mutations of coagulation factors II and V genes, as well as methylenetethrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene polymorphism, with the course of pregnancy and the type of reproductive failure.
Background: Maternal brain death during pregnancy is an exceptional case when somatic support might be continued despite diagnosed death. There are only a few cases of maternal brain death during pregnancy reported in the literature and detailed data regarding the frequency of such cases are lacking.
Case Report: The case of a 40-year-old woman, diagnosed brain dead due to a subarachnoid and intracranial hemorrhage in the 21st week of pregnancy is presented.
Unlabelled: Intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and prematurity are often correlated with higher mortality and morbidity in the first days of life especially due to complications such as: hypoglycemia, polycythemia, necrotizing enterocolitis, meconium aspiration syndrome. Disturbances in the haemostatic system could be responsible for poor outcome of these complications.
Aim: To determine the activity of main inhibitor of coagulation-antithrombin, level of protein C, concentration of thrombin-antithrombin (TAT) complexes and fibrinogen in the blood of premature infants with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) in comparison with premature infants without IUGR.
Unlabelled: THE AIM of the study was an attempt to determine the correlation between the incidence of IgE - dependent allergy and the severity of gastro-oesophageal reflux in children and youth.
Patients And Methods: 222 patients aged from 1 to 16 years with diagnosed acidic gastro-oesophageal reflux on the basis of all day ph observations were enrolled to the study. IgE - dependent allergy was diagnosed on the basis of the history, physical examination, evaluation of cIgE concentration in serum and the results of skin tests with chosen food and pollen allergens.
The authors present a case of cerebral vascular malformation in vertebral artery region which was found in 12-years old boy with hemiparesis.
