Clinical entity augmented retrieval for clinical information extraction.

Large language models (LLMs) with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) have improved information extraction over previous methods, yet their reliance on embeddings often leads to inefficient retrieval. We introduce CLinical Entity Augmented Retrieval (CLEAR), a RAG pipeline that retrieves information using entities. We compared CLEAR to embedding RAG and full-note approaches for extracting 18 variables using six LLMs across 20,000 clinical notes.

Sodium butyrate (NaBu), well-known as a histone deacetylase inhibitor and for its capacity to impede cell growth, can enhance the production of a specific protein, such as an antibody, in recombinant Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell cultures. In this study, two CHO cell lines, namely K1 and DG44, along with their corresponding mAb-producing lines, K1-Pr and DG44-Pr, were cultivated with or without NaBu. A SWATH-based profiling method was employed to analyze the proteome.

Background: Blood-based biomarkers might help lung cancer diagnosis. A panel of serum tumour markers (TM) has been validated for hospital referrals due to clinical suspicion of lung cancer. We have compared plasma from a cohort enriched for early-stage lung cancer, including controls from a healthy population cohort.

Controlled Helical Organization in Supramolecular Polymers of Pseudo-Macrocyclic Tetrakisporphyrins.

Tetrakisporphyrin monomers with amino acid side chains at each end form intramolecular antiparallel hydrogen-bonds to adopt chirally twisted pseudo-macrocyclic structures that result in right-handed and left-handed (P)- and (M)-conformations. The pseudo-macrocyclic tetrakisporphyrin monomers self-assembled to form supramolecular helical pseudo-polycatenane polymers via head-to-head complementary dimerization of the bisporphyrin cleft units in an isodesmic manner. The formation of one-handed supramolecular helical pseudo-polycatenane polymers was confirmed by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy.

NIAGADS: A Comprehensive National Data Repository for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia Genetics and Genomics Research.

NIAGADS is the National Institute on Aging (NIA) designated national data repository for human genetics research on Alzheimer's Disease and related dementia (ADRD). NIAGADS maintains a high-quality data collection for ADRD genetic/genomic research and supports genetics data production and analysis. NIAGADS hosts whole genome and exome sequence data from the Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project (ADSP) and other genotype/phenotype data, encompassing 209,000 samples.

Using Functional Communication and Competing Stimuli to Gradually Increase the Distance of Transitions in the Treatment of Tangibly Maintained Elopement.

Unlabelled: Behavioral interventions are highly efficacious in reducing elopement. However, few studies explicitly examine elopement during transitions, and they typically do not discuss distance traveled during the transition. We report on a successful treatment consisting of functional communication to "go see" stimuli during transitions along with blocking and competing stimuli during reinforcer delays for a young boy whose elopement occurred during transitions and was maintained by positive reinforcement in the form of access to tangibles.

Successful Management of Upper Gastrointestinal Obstruction With Primary Advanced Ovarian Cancer.

Background/aim: Upper gastrointestinal obstruction is an extremely rare complication of primary ovarian cancer. We present a case of primary advanced ovarian cancer with gastroduodenal obstruction successfully managed with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and conservative treatment.

Case Report: A 60-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for advanced ovarian cancer with upper gastrointestinal obstruction.

The preferential response to PARP inhibitors (PARPis) in BRCA-deficient and Schlafen 11 (SLFN11)-expressing ovarian cancers has been documented, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. As the accumulation of single-strand DNA (ssDNA) gaps behind replication forks is key for the lethality effect of PARPis, we investigated the combined effects of SLFN11 expression and BRCA deficiency on PARPi sensitivity and ssDNA gap formation in human cancer cells. PARPis increased chromatin-bound RPA2 and ssDNA gaps in SLFN11-expressing cells and even more in cells with BRCA1 or BRCA2 deficiency.

Effects of novel lactoferrin peptides on LPS-induced alveolar bone destruction in a rat model.

To develop novel bovine lactoferrin (bLF) peptides targeting bLF-tumour necrosis factor (TNF) receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) binding sites, we identified two peptides that could target bLF-TRAF6 binding sites using structural analysis. Moreover, another peptide that could bind to the TRAF6 dimerization area was selected from the bLF sequence. The effects of each peptide on cytokine expression in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated osteoblasts (ST2) and on osteoclastogenesis were examined using an LPS-treated co-culture of primary bone marrow cells (BMCs) with ST2 cells and a single culture of osteoclast precursor cells (RAW-D) treated with soluble receptor activator of NF-κB ligand.

Objectives: COVID-19 vaccine mandates increased vaccination rates globally. Implemented as a one-size-fits-all policy, these mandates have unintended harmful consequences for many, including Black Canadians. This article reports findings on the interconnectedness of vaccine mandates and vaccine hesitancy by describing a range of responses to mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policies among Black people in Canada.

Co FeGe Heusler Alloy Nanoparticle Catalysts for Propyne Hydrogenation and Ammonia Decomposition.

Heusler alloys (X YZ) can be a candidate for new catalysts as well as other intermetallic compounds. We previously found good catalytic properties of Co FeGe for selective hydrogenation of alkynes and developed nanoparticles of Co FeGe supported on SiO . However, the average diameter of the nanoparticles was 23 nm, which is not small enough compared to those of state-of-the-art nanoparticle catalysts.

Here, we predicted rice starch digestibility by Raman scattering spectroscopy.

Antibiotic-induced microbiota disruption and its persistence create conditions for dysbiosis and colonization by opportunistic pathogens, such as those causing () infection (CDI), which is the most severe hospital-acquired intestinal infection. Given the wide differences in microbiota across hosts and in their recovery after antibiotic treatments, there is a need for assays to assess the influence of dysbiosis and its recovery dynamics on the susceptibility of the host to CDI. Germination of spores is a key virulence trait for the onset of CDI, which is influenced by the level of primary vs secondary bile acids in the intestinal milieu that is regulated by the microbiota composition.
