Introduction: The use of transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound in neurocritical patients is reported to be increasingly common in pediatric intensive care units. The objective of this survey was to know about the use and practice of TCD ultrasound in neurocritical care and the training process of staff members performing it.

Material And Methods: Survey administered to providers from 23 pediatric intensive care units of Argentina.

Objectives: Schizophrenia spectrum disorders are associated with incapacitating social impairments, mostly due to Theory of Mind (ToM) deficits. Theory of mind difficulties often precede the beginning of schizophrenia spectrum disorders and contribute highly to the social withdrawal of patients. They also predict bad outcome for individuals suffering from this condition.

The absence of septum pellucidum (ASP) is a rare disease, which affects the structure of the brain. It is either isolated or associated with various congenital brain malformations. The diagnosis of ASP can be performed by second-trimester ultrasound.

Objective: Pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency (PDHD) and pyruvate carboxylase deficiency (PCD) are diseases with severe neonatal forms, and their low prevalence makes them difficult to diagnose during pregnancy. Our objective was to describe prenatal ultrasound features that may be suggestive of these diagnoses.

Methods: We analyzed 3 cases from our institution and reviewed 12 published cases of PDHD and 6 cases of PCD, recording all of the ultrasound signs, as well as magnetic resonance findings when available.

Aim: To describe the prenatal features and management of a congenital intra hepatic fistula.

Material And Methods: Case report Results: Congenital intra hepatic fistula are extremely rare. The prenatal ultrasound seiology is described.

Background: Calcium silicate-based cements are biomaterials with calcium oxide and carbonate filler additives. Their properties are close to those of dentin, making them useful in restorative dentistry and endodontics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro biological effects of two such calcium silicate cements, Biodentine (BD) and Bioroot (BR), on dental stem cells in both direct and indirect contact models.

This present study investigated the link between speech-in-speech perception capacities and four executive function components: response suppression, inhibitory control, switching and working memory. We constructed a cross-modal semantic priming paradigm using a written target word and a spoken prime word, implemented in one of two concurrent auditory sentences (cocktail party situation). The prime and target were semantically related or unrelated.

Background: Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis are the major tools of invasive prenatal diagnosis. We studied the effectiveness of two simulators in training in invasive procedures.

Methods: Two affordable and simple simulators were developed, modelling the maternal abdomen and the different tissue layers crossed by the needle.

Objectives: The development of CAD-CAM techniques called for new materials suited to this technique and offering a safe and sustainable clinical implementation. The infiltration of resin in a ceramic network under high pressure and high temperature defines a new class of hybrid materials, namely polymer infiltrated ceramics network (PICN), for this purpose which requires to be evaluated biologically. We used oral stem cells (gingival and pulpal) as an in vitro experimental model.

Umbilical vein thrombosis is a rare anomaly with high mortality that frequently occurs in association with fetomaternal conditions. The unfavorable outcome of our case highlights the need for consensus on severity criteria, including the percentage of vascular occlusion determined by power Doppler, in order to improve outcome.

Fetal hydrops and myocarditis were diagnosed in a woman at 32 weeks of gestation (WG). Transplacental enterovirus infection was suspected because all other causes of myocarditis and hydrops were excluded, it was during an endemic period, and there was a setting of maternal infection (fever a few days before). We opted for in utero treatment because of the risk of resuscitating a neonate with myocarditis and hydrops.

Purpose: To evaluate the accuracy of ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis of placenta accreta and to define the most relevant specific ultrasound and MRI features that may predict placental invasion.

Material And Methods: This study was approved by the institutional review board of the French College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients referred for suspected placenta accreta to two university hospitals from 01/2001 to 05/2012.

Purpose Of Review: To review prognostic parameters reported recently in the evaluation of abdominal wall defects in the first trimester.

Recent Findings: Evaluation of abdominal wall defects in the first trimester is based principally on associated structural or chromosomal anomalies. In the case of gastroschisis, which is rarely associated with other anomalies, evaluation of prenatal or postnatal outcome is based mainly on the course of pregnancy.

Enterovirus (EV) maternal infection during pregnancy and its relation to fetal developmental pathology are seldomly described. When reported, the main manifestations of EV congenital infections are myocarditis or intra-uterine fetal demise (IUFD). No information on intrauterine Echovirus 11 infection or the effect of transplacental Echovirus 11 infection on development of the fetus has been described in literature up to date (excluding late-pregnancy infections).

Background: NMR spectroscopy-based metabolomics is a system approach used to investigate the metabolic profile of biological fluids with multivariate data analysis tools. The aim of this study was to examine the kidney graft recovery process noninvasively through the examinations of urine samples using (1)H NMR spectroscopy combined with chemometric tools.

Methods: Urine samples were treated as the source of metabolites reflecting the pathological and clinical conditions of patients with transplanted kidneys.

We demonstrate a simple and promising method for the preparation of large-area natural microstructured Fe-wings which combines biotemplating and biomimetic techniques using natural structures as templates. The replicas were robust and hydrophobic, and also possessed excellent magnetic properties. The micro-structures of the wing scales were accurately retained.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the perinatal outcomes of fetuses with isolated omphalocele diagnosed before 14 weeks of gestation (WG) and determine whether visceral-abdominal disproportion (ratio between mean omphalocele diameter and transverse abdominal diameter) and omphalocele contents can predict neonatal morbidity.

Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of omphaloceles diagnosed before 14 WG at three tertiary centers between January 1998 and January 2010. In the group of isolated omphaloceles (i.

The present research aimed to investigate whether, as previously observed with pictures, background auditory rhythm would also influence visual word recognition. In a lexical decision task, participants were presented with bisyllabic visual words, segmented into two successive groups of letters, while an irrelevant strongly metric auditory sequence was played in a loop. The first group of letters could either be congruent with the syllabic division of the word (e.

Disseminate intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a clinical pathological syndrome associated to several diseases. Sepsis is the most common cause in infants and children. DIC results from the anomalous activation of blood coagulation, widespread formation of thrombi in the microcirculation, and consumption of clotting factors and platelets.

Amniocentesis is the most common invasive procedure for prenatal diagnosis. It is essential to master this sampling technique prior to performing more complex ultrasound-guided interventions (cordocentesis, drain insertion). Training is a challenge because of the risks associated with the procedure, as well as the impact on the patient's anxiety.

Objectives: Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) in the first trimester of pregnancy has become a major tool in prenatal diagnosis. To increase the safety of CVS during training period, we have built a "BT-Trainer".

Materials And Methods: A medical device has been developed which simulates the in vivo procedure with the various layers to cross.

Radiologic embolization of the uterine arteries is increasingly used to treat severe postpartum hemorrhage, as an alternative to surgical procedures. Guidelines have been published in order to standardize the indications as well as the technique. An important objective was to limit severe complications such as uterine necrosis.
