Is low level laser effective for the treatment of orofacial pain?: A systematic review.

The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of low level laser therapy (LLLT) as a treatment for orofacial pain considering the methodology of the studies. PubMed (1983-2009) and one conference proceeding were searched. Studying quality was assessed using a validated instrument.

Prevalence of dentine hypersensitivity among Thai dental patients at the Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University.

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of dentine hypersensitivity (DH) and its associated etiological factors among Thai patients visiting the Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University, Thailand. Questionnaires were administered to 420 patients to obtain demographic information, dental history, eating habits and DH symptom data. The diagnosis of DH was established by a short, sharp pain arising from exposed dentine in response to triple-syringe air blow and exploration of the tooth surface.

Comparative study in desensitizing efficacy using the GaAlAs laser and dentin bonding agent.

Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy of the GaAlAs laser and dentin bonding agent in treating dentin hypersensitivity.

Methods: One hundred and forty teeth from 70 patients diagnosed with dentin hypersensitivity, were divided into two groups: In group I, teeth were irradiated with 30 mW GaAlAs laser for 1 min and in group II, teeth were applied with dentin bonding agent. Sensitivity was assessed by tactile and thermal tests, measured with the criteria proposed by Uchida at baseline and after treatment; immediately, at 15 and at 30 days.
