The downregulation of anti-adhesive regulatory proteins and upregulation of adhesive genes are critical for the receptive endometrium. This study was designed to determine whether switching between the anti-adhesive podocalyxin (PDX) and adhesive HOXA10 receptivity modulator occurs in the endometrium of women with recurrent implantation failure (RIF). Twenty-four patients with RIF who could not conceive for three or more cycles despite good-quality embryo transfer constituted the study group.

The optical centers in AlN can frequently exist in various charge states and can be accompanied by many coexisting defect species, creating a complex environment where mutual interactions are inevitable. Therefore, it is an immediate quest to design AlN crystal growth protocols that can target a specific optical center of interest and tune its concentration while preventing the formation of other unwanted point defects. Here, we provide a powerful workflow for point defect engineering in wide band gap, binary semiconductors that can be readily used to design optimal crystal growth protocols through combining CALPHAD-based phase analysis, and defect calculations.

Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the etiologies and contributing factors of synovial and tenosynovial involvement in SSc, as well as to assess the phenotype of patients with these synovial and tenosynovial features.

Methods: 171 SSc patients with hand manifestations (either vascular, skin or joint manifestations) who underwent standard X-rays of both hands and hand ultrasound (US), were included. Two independent evaluators recorded the presence or absence of acro-osteolysis, calcinosis, microcrystalline and degenerative rheumatisms, including osteophytosis on X-Rays.

Article Synopsis
  • Sepsis is a major health issue in newborns, and researchers studied the effectiveness of the sTREM-1 biomarker for identifying early onset neonatal sepsis (EONS) in 52 suspected cases compared to 30 healthy newborns.
  • They found that while certain other biomarkers (like CRP and neutrophil levels) were significantly elevated in EONS cases, sTREM-1 levels did not show a meaningful difference between EONS patients and healthy newborns.
  • The study concluded that more extensive research with larger groups and repeated measurements is needed to determine the real value of sTREM-1 in clinical practice for diagnosing neonatal sepsis.

  • - The study assessed trauma CT interpretation proficiency among emergency medicine residents in Turkey, finding a median accuracy rate of 64.9% with factors influencing interpretation performance analyzed.
  • - Four main factors linked to interpretation failure were identified: shorter interpretation times, lower self-confidence, over-reliance on radiology reports, and lack of departmental training programs.
  • - The findings suggest the necessity for improved educational strategies in radiology for emergency medicine residents to enhance their skills in trauma CT interpretation and ultimately improve patient care outcomes.

  • This study investigates out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) data in Türkiye, focusing on prognostic outcomes and influencing factors for patients aged 18 and older who were treated at 28 medical centers.
  • It found a survival rate upon hospital discharge of only 4.4%, with a significant majority of patients not receiving bystander CPR, which was only performed in 2.9% of cases.
  • Key predictors for better outcomes included male gender, initial shockable heart rhythms, shorter prehospital CPR duration, and no need for CPR in the emergency department, highlighting the importance of timely and effective CPR in emergencies.

  • This study aimed to analyze the demographic data and usage trends of amniotic membrane transplants for eye conditions over a decade at a tertiary eye center.
  • A total of 272 patients were included, with a mean age of 50 years, and the most common reasons for the transplant were ocular surface lesion excision and chemical injuries.
  • Results showed a significant increase in use rates for microbial keratitis in recent years and differences in degradation times of the membrane based on the type of primary disease, indicating evolving trends in the application of this treatment.

GaN is a technologically indispensable material for various optoelectronic properties, mainly due to the dopant-induced or native atomic-scale point defects that can create single photon emitters, a range of luminescence bands, and n- or p-type conductivities. Among the various dopants, chromium and manganese-induced defects have been of particular interest over the past few years, because some of them contribute to our present-day light-emitting diode (LED) and spintronic technologies. However, the nature of such atomistic centers in Cr and Mn-doped GaN is yet to be understood.

Lung cancer is a prevalent malignancy associated with a high mortality rate, with a 5-year relative survival rate of 23%. Traditional survival analysis methods, reliant on clinician judgment, may lack accuracy due to their subjective nature. Consequently, there is growing interest in leveraging AI-based systems for survival analysis using clinical data and medical imaging.

Objective: Metacarpal fractures are one of the most common orthopedic injuries seen in emergency departments. Despite this, only a few data have been published about the epidemiology of metacarpal fractures. Simple radiographs are the standard imaging modality used to diagnose boxer fractures and determine the degree of angulation.

Objectives: To evaluate scleral thickness measurements of pterygium patients using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) and to compare them with healthy individuals.

Material And Methods: Scleral thickness was measured from 2, 4, 6 mm posterior to the scleral spur with AS-OCT (Swept Source OCT Triton, Topcon, Japan) in 4 quadrants (superior, inferior, nasal and temporal).

Results: Eyes with pterygium were determined as Group 1, and contralateral eyes without pterygium were determined as Group 2.

Pediatric patients with high-risk neuroblastoma have poor survival rates and urgently need more effective treatment options with less side effects. Since novel and improved immunotherapies may fill this need, we dissect the immunoregulatory interactions in neuroblastoma by single-cell RNA-sequencing of 24 tumors (10 pre- and 14 post-chemotherapy, including 5 pairs) to identify strategies for optimizing immunotherapy efficacy. Neuroblastomas are infiltrated by natural killer (NK), T and B cells, and immunosuppressive myeloid populations.

We conduct ab-initio electronic structure calculations to explore a novel category of magnetic Heusler compounds, comprising solely 3d transition metal atoms and characterized by high spin magnetic moments. Specifically, we focus on Co2YZ Heusler compounds, where and represent transition metal atoms such that the order of the valence is Co > > . We show that these compounds exhibit a distinctive region of very low density of minority-spin states at the Fermi level when crystallizing in the L21 lattice structure.
