The linewidth of a laser plays a pivotal role in ensuring the high fidelity of ion trap quantum processors and optical clocks. As quantum computing endeavors scale up in qubit number, the demand for higher laser power with ultra-narrow linewidth becomes imperative, and leveraging fiber amplifiers emerges as a promising approach to meet these requirements. This study explores the effectiveness of thulium-doped fiber amplifiers (TDFAs) as a viable solution for addressing optical qubit transitions in trapped barium ion qubits.

There are no simple clinical prognostic tools which can predict mortality in viper envenomings. We aimed to develop and validate a mortality-risk prediction score for patients of viper envenoming from Southern India.

Snake bite is an important cause for acute kidney injury (AKI) in the tropics and the victims are often otherwise healthy young adults without conventional risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD). Available literature on long-term outcomes of AKI -snake envenomation is limited, with only two small retrospective studies with follow-up periods of two years or less. In a hospital-based prospective and retrospective follow-up study, all consecutive adult patients who developed AKI and discharged alive were recruited in the prospective group and for retrospective analysis, we retrieved medical records of patients hospitalized with snake bite from the digitized medical records.

However, their prevalence in adult strokes, in healthy populations, and in specific ethnic groups is not well defined. We investigated the association of prothrombotic factors with strokes in a South Indian Tamil population.

Acute myeloid leukemia has a poor outcome because of early deaths, high relapse rate and financial constraints. Our hospital provides care free of cost and this study assesses the short term outcome of acute myeloid leukemia in adults. The study was done from September 2013 to May 2015.

This study was conducted to assess the difference in cardiovascular (CV) risk profile in IR and non-IR (NIR) conditions, and contribution of IR to cardiometabolic risks in pre-obese and obese individuals.
Methods: Basal CV, blood pressure variability, autonomic function test and cardiometabolic parameters were recorded in pre-obese (n=86) and obese (n=77) individuals during 2012 and 2015.
Background & Objectives: The optimal anti-snake venom (ASV) dose required to treat neurotoxic snake envenomation is not known. Low-dose ASV (national protocol: maximum dose 200 ml) may be as efficacious as the conventional regimen (100 ml six hourly till all symptoms disappear), but a direct comparison of the regimens is not available. The aim of this study was to test the efficacy of low-dose ASV regimen against the conventional high-dose regimen.

The acquired form due to inhibitors following antibiotic therapy, infection, or surgery is less common, and spontaneous development of inhibitors is not known.
Case Report: An 18-year-old boy presented with bleeding axillary and groin ulcers.
Background And Objectives: Occupational exposures (OEs) to blood and body fluids (BBFs) pose significant risk of transmission of blood-borne infections (BBIs) to health care personnel (HCP) and are grossly underreported. We aimed to study the awareness of BBIs and their prevention, burden of OEs, assess factors contributing to them and their poor reporting and assess the practices for their prevention among HCP.
Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted at a tertiary care teaching hospital located in south India used a self-administered questionnaire to assess the awareness of BBIs, attitude and practice of HCP for prevention of OEs, and to quantify the burden of exposures.
Procalcitonin has been found to be a good marker for the diagnosis of sepsis. However, data on procalcitonin levels to predict the clinical outcome in patients with sepsis are limited. The aim of our study was to estimate serum procalcitonin levels in patients with sepsis and to identify its relationship with the clinical outcome.

The cardiovascular mortality and morbidity remains significantly high in this population.
Aim: The present study was carried out to assess the pattern of lipid abnormality in our population and to find its association with inflammatory markers.
Background And Aims: Upper gastrointestinal symptoms are more prevalent among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. The prevalence of delayed gastric emptying (GE) and factors predictive of it have not been studied in Indian T2DM patients and the present study aimed to study the same.
Methods: This hospital-based cross-sectional study involved adult (age between 18 and 65 years) outpatients with T2DM of ≥5-year duration.
Bleomycin-induced skin toxicity is a rare and unique complication. We report a 35-year-old man with nodular lymphocytic predominant Hodgkin's lymphoma, stage IVB, who was started on adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastin and dacarbazine (ABVD) chemotherapy. He developed pruritic hyperpigmented, patchy skin lesions on the neck, back, chest and thighs after IA cycle of ABVD chemotherapy.

Heavy hydrogenic atoms like the barium ion are test beds for fundamental physics such as atomic parity violation and they also hold the key to understanding nucleo-synthesis in stars.

Complications related to IV administration of ICAs such as immediate hypersensitivity reactions and nephrotoxicity are well-known. However, severe skin and soft tissue injuries and acute compartment syndrome resulting from contrast extravasation are rare.

Objective: Though decreased baroreflex sensitivity (BRS), the predictor of cardiac morbidities and mortality has been reported in obesity, the mechanisms and metabolic biomarkers influencing BRS have not been studied. We aimed to assess the difference in cardiovascular (CV) risk profile in pre-obesity and obesity, and the contribution of body composition and cardiometabolic factors to CV risks in these two conditions.
Methods: Obesity indices, body composition, blood pressure variability and autonomic function test parameters were recorded in 223 subjects divided into controls (n=72), pre-obese (n=77) and obese (n=74) groups.
Aims/introduction: As reports show cardiovascular (CV) risks in first-degree relatives (FDR) of type 2 diabetics, and autonomic imbalance predisposing to CV risks, in the present study we have assessed the contribution of sympathovagal imbalance (SVI) to CV risks in these subjects.
Materials And Methods: Body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), basal heart rate (BHR), blood pressure (BP), rate pressure product (RPP), and spectral indices of heart rate variability (HRV) were reordered and analyzed in FDR of type 2 diabetics (study group, n = 293) and in subjects with no family history of diabetes (control group, n = 405).
Results: The ratio of low-frequency (LF) to high-frequency (HF) power of HRV (LF-HF), a sensitive marker of SVI, was significantly increased (P < 0.
