Deep learning on a limited number of labels/annotations is a challenging task for medical imaging analysis. In this paper, we propose a novel self-training segmentation pipeline (Self-Seg in short) for segmenting skeletal muscle in CT images. Self-Seg starts with a small set of annotated images and then iteratively learns from unlabeled datasets to gradually improve the segmentation performance.

Objectives: The aims of this study were to use a national percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) registry to study temporal changes in procedure volumes of PCI using rotational atherectomy (ROTA-PCI), the patient and procedural factors associated with differing quartiles of operator ROTA-PCI volume, and the relationship between operator ROTA-PCI volumes and in-hospital patient outcomes.

Background: Whether higher operator volume is associated with improved outcomes after ROTA-PCI is poorly defined.

Methods: Data from the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society national PCI database were analyzed for all ROTA-PCI procedures performed in the United Kingdom between 2013 and 2016.

Objectives: Frailty and sarcopenia are known risk factors for adverse liver transplant outcomes and mortality. We hypothesized that frailty or sarcopenia could identify the risk for common serious transplant-related adverse respiratory events.

Methods: For 107 patients (74 men, 33 women) transplanted over 1 year, we measured frailty with gait speed, chair stands, and Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS) and sarcopenia with Skeletal Muscle Index on computed tomography at L3.

Background: Given the rising prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and the limited data on its effect on the course of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), we characterized multiyear patterns of disease severity in a cohort of IBD patients with coexistent DM.

Methods: Data of consented IBD patients followed prospectively in a natural history registry at a tertiary center between 2009 and 2017 were analyzed. Patients with ≥3 years of clinical follow-up were included.

Background: Treatment choices for total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) in the absence of full-thickness rotator cuff tears (RCTs) are not clearly defined in current literature. This study investigated the prevalence and effect of preoperative partial-thickness RCTs and muscular degenerative changes on postoperative outcomes after TSA.

Methods: Medical records and magnetic resonance imaging studies were reviewed for patients who underwent TSA for primary glenohumeral osteoarthritis with minimum 2-year follow-up to determine preoperative tear classification, Goutallier grade, and supraspinatus tangent sign.
