Head and neck cancer mortality in the United States: Regional differences in hospice use and place of death.

Background: With more than 15,000 annual deaths from head and neck cancer (HNC), an important aspect of end-of-life care for these patients is place of death. Recent evidence suggests an increasing preference for home/hospice at end of life; however, it is unclear whether there is variation in home/hospice use based on region or urban status. We described differences in the place of death of HNC patients based on their region and urban status.

DeepIOD: Towards A Context-Aware Indoor-Outdoor Detection Framework Using Smartphone Sensors.

Accurate indoor-outdoor detection (IOD) is essential for location-based services, context-aware computing, and mobile applications, as it enhances service relevance and precision. However, traditional IOD methods, which rely only on GPS data, often fail in indoor environments due to signal obstructions, while IMU data are unreliable on unseen data in real-time applications due to reduced generalizability. This study addresses this research gap by introducing the DeepIOD framework, which leverages IMU sensor data, GPS, and light information to accurately classify environments as indoor or outdoor.

Long-term predictors of morbidity and mortality in patients following LVAD replacement.

Background: As heart transplant guidelines evolve, the clinical indication for 73% of durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implants is now destination therapy. Although completely magnetically levitated LVAD devices have demonstrated improved durability relative to previous models, LVAD replacement procedures are still required for a variety of indications. Thus, the population of patients with a replaced LVAD is growing.
