Recent studies documented that Rbm24a mutant causes cataract formation and resulted in blindness using the zebrafish model. Therefore, correct interpretation of studies that aimed for molecular approaches, a description of comparative and in-depth analysis of development of lens in wildtype and mutant is crucial to obtain the correct conclusion.

Risk factors influencing postoperative outcome in patients with perforated peptic ulcer: a prospective cohort study.

Background: Perforated peptic ulcer (PPU) has been associated with substantially high incidence of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to analyze the factors affecting the outcome of patients having perforated peptic ulcer undergoing surgical intervention.

Post-testicular maturation of spermatozoa is crucial for attaining the morphological and functional capabilities needed for successful fertilization. Epididymal epithelia offer a favorable environment for spermatozoa that are stored long term in the turtle epididymis; however, sperm-epithelial interactions during storage, which are enormously important for sperm functional and morphological maturation, are still largely unknown in turtles. The present study examined the epididymis during the sperm-storage period (November-April) in the Chinese soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis).

Effects of topical Vancomycin Dressing on Methicillin-Resistant (MRSA) positive diabetic foot ulcers.

Introduction: Actinomycetoma is a chronic subcutaneous infection caused by aerobic branching actinomycetes. Here, the expression, purification, crystallization and X-ray analysis of the complex of the chicken MHC class I molecule BF2*0401 and CD8αα (CD8αα-BF2*0401) are reported. This complex was verified by SDS-PAGE analysis of a CD8αα-BF2*0401 crystal, which showed three bands corresponding to the molecular weights of BF2*0401, β2-microglobulin and CD8α, respectively.

Amphioxus is regarded as an essential animal model for the study of immune evolution. Discovery of new molecules with the immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF) variable (V) domain in amphioxus would help in studying the evolution of IgSF V molecules in the immune system. A protein was found which just contains only one IgSF V domain in amphioxus, termed Amphi-IgSF-V; it has over 30% sequence identity to the V domains of human immunoglobulins and mammalian T-cell receptors.

Evaluation of oxidative stress and DNA damage in benign prostatic hyperplasia patients and comparison with controls.

In the present study, oxidative stress and lymphocytic DNA damage in both pre-op and post-op benign prostrate hyperplasia (BPH) patients with age >50 years was evaluated and compared with normal healthy subjects (controls- without any evidence of disease) of the same sex and age group. From December 2007 to November 2009, oxidative stress in 45 BPH patients were evaluated both before (pre-op patients) and after 7 days of surgery (post-op patients) in terms of measurements of plasma levels of (1) various anti-oxidative enzymes, (2) non-enzymatic antioxidants and (3) malondialdehyde which is a product of lipid peroxidation. The lymphocyte DNA damage was also evaluated by single cell alkaline gel electrophoresis in terms of tail length migration in these patients.

Sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma.

Sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma (SRCC) is an aggressive tumor variant thought to arise predominantly from differentiation of clear cell carcinoma. A few reports of SRCC associated with non-clear cell tumors led to the presumption that SRCC may arise from any renal cell carcinoma, although direct evidence of this is lacking. We report a case of a 70-year-old male patient, who presented with acute left upper quadrant abdominal pain and was diagnosed to have SRCC after pathological examination.

Mammography-guided stereotactic fine needle aspiration cytology of breast lesions.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of mammographic guided stereotactic fine needle aspiration cytology in 136 patients with breast lesions including mammographic features, cytomorphological findings and nuclear grading in malignant cases.
