Introduction: Natural products are among the most useful sources for the discovery of new drugs against various diseases. Keeping in view the ethnobotanical relevance ethnopharmacological significance of Polygonaceae family in diabetes, the current study was designed to isolate pure compounds from L. leaves and evaluate their and antidiabetic potentials.

Objective: (-) Epicatechin (EP) is a naturally occurring antioxidant flavonoid found in some green plants. The current study was designed to evaluate the potential role of antioxidant mechanisms in the hepatoprotective properties of EP using the carbon tetrachloride (CCl)-induced acute liver injury model.

Materials And Methods: Rats ( = 7 per group) were divided into five groups including control group, (-) epicatechin group (20 mg·kg body weight), CCl group (1 mL body weight), CCl-EP treatment group, and CCl-silymarin (SILY) group.

Profile of bacterial pneumonia during Hajj.

Background & Objectives: The congregation of a large number of people during Hajj seasons from different parts of the world in overcrowded conditions within a confined area for a long period of time presents many public health challenges and health risks. One of the main health problems of the crowding is ease transmission of pneumonia by air droplets. This study was aimed to determine the most common causes of bacterial pneumonia during the 2005 Hajj season and to relate the findings with clinical conditions.
