An Unusual Presentation of Hip Pain in a Patient with Known Hyper-IgE Syndrome and Multiple Calcified Pelvic Apophyses.

Introduction: Hyper-IgE syndrome (HIES) is a relatively rare condition which, from childhood, renders patients susceptible to infection. Typically patients with HIES can develop various orthopaedic manifestations of this disease, namely scoliosis, pathological fractures, osteoporosis, and potentially septic arthritis.

Case Report: We present the case of WJ, a 44-year old patient with known HIES(since the age of 11) and a 7-week history of left hip pain.

An Unusual Presentation of Pectoralis Major Pyomyositis Presenting as Septic Arthritis of the Shoulder: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Pyomyositis is a relatively rare condition and often requires a low index of suspicion. We present a case of an otherwise fit and well woman who had pyomyositis of the pectoralis major muscle and presented as an acute septic arthritis of the shoulder. We present the conundrums that arose in arriving at this diagnosis, and how we successfully managed this condition through our multidisciplinary approach.

Temporary external fixation facilitates open reduction and internal fixation of intra-articular calcaneal fractures.

Management of intra-articular calcaneal fractures during the past years has ranged from the nihilistic approach of no active treatment to open reduction and internal fixation or even to early subtalar arthrodesis. Operative treatment presents the surgeon with many challenges. Good results require atraumatic exposure, anatomic reduction, rigid fixation and early mobilization.

Anterior interosseous nerve palsy as a complication of proximal humerus fracture.

Anterior interosseous nerve palsy subsequent to proximal humerus fracture is rare compared with an axillary nerve injury. This article presents a case of anterior interosseous nerve palsy secondary to such a fracture in an 87-year-old woman after a simple fall onto her outstretched hand. The patient had no sensory involvement but was unable to form an O with her thumb and index finger.
