Ankle sprains (AS) are common in the military population, with a prevalence 5 to 8 times higher than that for civilians. The aim of this study was to evaluate in patients with severe AS the impact of disuse on thigh muscle induced by unloading and immobilization due to care. This study focused on muscle trophicity and dynamometric strength.

The neurological manifestations of Gaucher disease type 1: the French Observatoire on Gaucher disease (FROG).

Background: Gaucher disease (GD), the most prevalent inherited lysosomal storage disorder, is caused by deficient glucocerebrosidase activity. Type 1 GD (GD1), the most common variant, is classically considered non-neuronopathic.

Methods: We performed a national cross-sectional observational survey-the French Observatoire on Gaucher Disease (FROG)-in patients with GD1 between March 2005 and September 2006.

Calculational and experimental investigations of the pressure effects on radical-radical cross combination reactions: C2H5+C2H3.

Pressure-dependent product yields have been experimentally determined for the cross-radical reaction C2H5 + C2H3. These results have been extended by calculations. It is shown that the chemically activated combination adduct, 1-C4H8*, is either stabilized by bimolecular collisions or subject to a variety of unimolecular reactions including cyclizations and decompositions.

The recombination of methyl radicals is the major loss process for methyl in the atmospheres of Saturn and Neptune. The serious disagreement between observed and calculated levels of CH has led to suggestions that the atmospheric models greatly underestimated the loss of CH due to poor knowledge of the rate of the reaction CH + CH + M → CH + M at the low temperatures and pressures of these atmospheric systems. In an attempt to resolve this problem, the absolute rate constant for the self-reaction of CH has been measured using the discharge-flow kinetic technique coupled to mass spectrometric detection at T = 202 and 298 K and P = 0.

Local immunostimulation induced by intravesical administration of autologous interferon-gamma-activated macrophages in patients with superficial bladder cancer.

We conducted a phase I/II clinical trial of the safety and efficacy of intravesical administration of autologous IFN-gamma-activated macrophages (MAK) in patients with superficial bladder cancer. Comparison of two methods to obtain a desired first isepamicin peak in intensive care patients.

A randomized multicenter study in intensive care unit (ICU) patients, evaluated the capacity of a Bayesian method to obtain an optimal first isepamicin (ISP) peak of 80 mg/L in comparison to a fixed loading dose (LD). Patients (n=236) over 18 years of age were enrolled from 6 September 1997 to 17 July 1999 and randomly assigned to received ISP in a calculated dose (CD) or a loading dose (LD) of 25 mg/kg body weight. The CD was estimated using a specific population model with Bayesian methodology implemented in the PKS program (Abbott PKS, Abbott Diagnostics, Rungis, France).
