Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the role of Piwi proteins and piRNAs in protecting the genome of
  • Rhodnius prolixus
  • , a hemipteran insect known to transmit Chagas disease, from DNA damage caused by horizontally transferred transposable elements (HTTs) acquired from its diet.
  • - By using SmallRNA-Seq and RNA-Seq techniques, researchers quantified piRNA features and gene expression levels, revealing that piRNA production peaks during embryogenesis, correlating with reduced expression of HTTs and resident transposable elements.
  • - The findings highlight that while resident transposable element piRNAs engage in a typical ping-pong amplification mechanism, the response to HTTs is different, suggesting unique biogenesis and functional pathways for pi

Introduction: Cervical disease control might be challenging in advanced thyroid cancer (DTC). Indications for cervical external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) are controversial.

Purpose: To identify clinical and molecular factors associated with control of cervical disease with EBRT.

Triatomine assassin bugs comprise hematophagous insect vectors of Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas disease. Although the microbiome of these species has been investigated to some extent, only one virus infecting Triatoma infestans has been identified to date. Here, we describe for the first time seven (+) single-strand RNA viruses (RpV1-7) infecting Rhodnius prolixus, a primary vector of Chagas disease in Central and South America.

Article Synopsis
  • Rhodnius prolixus is a significant vector for Chagas disease, and recent research sequenced its genome, improving gene annotations for 9,206 genes.
  • This study involved analyzing around 228 million RNA-Seq reads, which identified over 2,000 new genes and increased the total gene count from 15,738 to 17,864.
  • The findings reveal key gene expression changes during oogenesis, highlighting crucial factors for germline development and early embryonic processes, particularly in mature eggs where various signaling pathways are active.
