Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how obesity affects immune responses in young and older women, focusing on inflammatory cytokines and T cell function.
  • 23 young women (ages 23-43) and 21 older women (ages 60-83) with obesity participated, with results showing older women had fewer specific immune cells compared to their younger counterparts.
  • Surprisingly, most inflammation markers and immune cell activity were similar between the two age groups, suggesting obesity might lead to unique immune aging effects that require more research.

Recent studies suggest that leukemia stem cells (LSCs) play a critical role in the initiation, propagation, and relapse of leukemia. Herein we show that (-)-15-methylene-eburnamonine, a derivative of the alkaloid (-)-eburnamonine, is cytotoxic against acute and chronic lymphocytic leukemias (ALL and CLL) and acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). The agent also decreases primary LSC frequency in vitro.
