Historically, women in radiology are underrepresented in radiology and face disproportionate barriers to career advancement related to work-life integration, gender bias, and relative lack of female role models. Given these challenges, women must be proactive and seek out mentorship and sponsorship to help navigate career obstacles and to guide career direction. At times of inflection, coaching can play a role in helping to clarify next steps through self-discovery of one's strengths, limitations, and desired goals.

Career Sustainability: Perspectives From Early, Mid and Late Academic Career Radiologists.

Three radiologists representing unique career stages and paths have reflected on tips for achieving personal and career satisfaction that are relevant to their respective stage. Using published resources to lend support to these tips, this review article concludes by offering tangible tools that academic radiology departments can utilize to help customize faculty development to their staff at the various career stages.

Since the 2019 worldwide pandemic, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 responsible for COVID-19 disease, not only had global economic repercussions but millions of individuals health were also put at risk. Like any other respiratory illness, COVID-19 has a variety of presentations and radiological features. While COVID-19 infections in the pediatric population generally present with better prognosis and lower mortality rates when compared to those of adults, in the vulnerable populations however, severe presentations are often more frequent and can have catastrophic consequences.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is responsible for the debilitating global pandemic known as Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In this paper, we highlight the widespread manifestations and complications across disease systems. In addition, we present their relevant imaging findings to inform appropriate investigations and management in patients presenting to the Emergency Department with COVID-19 and its respective sequalae.

Developing a Late-Career Roadmap to Continued Career Engagement.

Professional development needs span the entirety of a radiologist's career. Great strides have been made in the creation of an infrastructure for early career development. Work is ongoing to develop such resources for mid-career radiologists, given the recent recognition of the needs of this group.

Defining the Roles and Responsibilities for the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs/Faculty Development in Radiology.

Rationale And Objectives: To inform the development of a job description for Vice-Chairs for academic affairs (VCAA), members of the Alliance of Leaders in Academic Affairs in Radiology (ALAAR) were surveyed to better understand their current job responsibilities and how they would ideally allocate their professional time.

Materials And Methods: Based on a survey of 33 university-affiliated radiology departments and discussion among ALAAR members, the authors developed a detailed job description for the VCAA. The 21-question survey was composed and validated by experts in the field.

The COVID-19 pandemic had major effects on radiology training programs throughout the country. Many of the challenges were shared, with some variation depending on the size and geographic location of each program. While some initial modifications, such as platoon-type scheduling and redeployment, have been abandoned, other changes such as home workstations and the option of remote conferences have become more permanently incorporated.

This article reviews current medical literature to assess the benefits and drawbacks of virtual interviews for radiology residencies as well as the downstream effects of these changes, best practices, and potential future recruitment methods. The incidence of burnout among radiologists has been increasing exponentially, largely attributed to increased work volumes, expectations for more rapid turn-around times and decreasing interpersonal interactions. While personal wellness activities have been described in the literature, there is little information on the role of cognitive behavioral therapy strategies to mitigate burnout. This manuscript will describe the value of naming automatic negative emotions which can lead to burnout and will provide an overview of strategies that can be used to combat them, using cognitive behavioral therapy techniques.

Resident Clinician Educator Leadership Pathway Tracks in US Radiology Programs: An ADVICER 2021 Survey Study.

Rationale And Objectives: The purpose of this manuscript is to elucidate the prevalence, characteristics, outcomes, and perceptions of Alliance of Directors and Vice Chairs of Education in Radiology (ADVICER) members on Clinician Educator Leadership Pathway (CELP) tracks in diagnostic and interventional radiology residency programs in the United States.

Materials And Methods: IRB exemption was obtained for this study. A 17-question anonymous survey was administered to the ADVICER members, an Association of University Radiologists (AUR) affiliate group, via email once, and then as a reminder 14 days later.
