The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends chlamydia screening at intake for all females in juvenile detention facilities. Identifying factors predictive of chlamydia could enable targeted screening, reducing costs while still identifying most infections. This study used demographic, arrest, and health data to identify factors associated with chlamydia among females aged 12 to 18 years entering a juvenile detention facility in San Diego during January 2009 to June 2010.

This research examined the prevalence and correlates of intimate partner violence (IPV) among younger, middle-aged, and older Korean American women. Data were drawn from telephone interviews of a population-based, representative probability sample ( = 592) of female adults of Korean descent residing in California, with a completion rate of 70%. Autoaggressive, myelin-reactive T cells are involved in multiple sclerosis and its prototype experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in mice. A peripheral negative feedback mechanism involving regulatory CD4+ and CD8+T cells (Treg) operates to suppress disease-mediating T cell responses. We have recently characterized a novel population of Qa-1a-restricted, TCR-peptide-reactive CD8αα+TCRαβ+ Treg that induce apoptotic depletion of the encephalitogenic Vβ8.

Regulatory mechanisms involving CD8+ T cells (CD8 regulatory T cells (Tregs)) are important in the maintenance of immune homeostasis. However, the inability to generate functional CD8 Treg clones with defined Ag specificity has precluded a direct demonstration of CD8 Treg-mediated regulation. In the present study, we describe the isolation of functional lines and clones representing a novel population of TCRalphabeta+ Tregs that control activated Vbeta8.
