Background. The cytotoxic effects of dopamine (DA) on several catecholaminergic cell lines involve DA oxidation products like reactive oxygen species (ROS) and toxic quinones and have implications in the pathogenesis of sporadic Parkinson's disease (PD). However, many molecular details are yet to be elucidated, and the possible nonoxidative mechanism of dopamine cytotoxicity has not been studied in great detail.

In developing countries, viruses causing respiratory disease are a major concern of public health. During January 2010-December 2011, 2,737 patients with acute respiratory infection from the outpatient departments as well as patients admitted to hospitals were screened for different respiratory viruses. Nasal and or throat swabs were collected and transported to the laboratory where initial screening of influenza A and influenza B viruses was performed.

During infection, viral proteins target cellular pathways that regulate cellular innate immune responses and cell death. We demonstrate that influenza A virus matrix 1 protein (M1), an established proapoptotic protein, activates nuclear factor-κB member RelB-mediated survival genes (cIAP1, cIAP2, and cFLIP), a function that is linked with its nuclear translocation during early infection. Death domain-associated protein 6 (Daxx) is a transcription co-repressor of the RelB-responsive gene promoters.

Background: During the pandemic [Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09] period in 2009-2010, an influenza A (Inf-A) virus with H1N2 subtype (designated as A/Eastern India/N-1289/2009) was detected from a 25 years old male from Mizoram (North-eastern India).

Objective: To characterize full genome of the H1N2 influenza virus.

Methods: For initial detection of Influenza viruses, amplification of matrix protein (M) gene of Inf-A and B viruses was carried out by real time RT-PCR.
