The study aimed to investigate the genotype distributions and epidemiological characteristics of Yersinia pestis in Gansu province.
Using PCR, researchers genotyped 202 Yersinia pestis DNA samples and identified eight distinct genotypes, some of which had been present since the 1960s.
While genotypes 1b, 8, and GS1 have remained prevalent, genotypes 7, 13, and 26 have not been isolated for over 40 years, and genotypes GS2 and 5 have gained prominence since the 1990s.
