Approximately 40% of marketed drugs and 75% of invested drugs in the pharmaceutical field are poorly soluble hydrophobic drugs with minimal solubility in water which make them difficult to be absorbed by the body and significantly limiting their applications. Among chemotherapeutic agents, numerous antitumor drugs such as platinum compounds, camptothecin, paclitaxel and others are also restricted in processing and preparation due to solubility issues. Therefore, improving the solubility and enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of drugs have always been significant research topics in current pharmaceutics.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how a high-fat diet (HFD) leads to obesity and its potential link to the coexistence of cardiovascular disease and cancer in ApoE knockout mice.
  • Mice on a HFD developed larger tumors and more atherosclerosis compared to those on a normal diet, indicating a connection between obesity and the severity of both diseases.
  • Changes in specific biomarkers, like LOX-1 and vascular endothelial growth factor, were observed in the HFD group, suggesting that these might contribute to the progression of cancer and cardiovascular issues simultaneously.

Background: Atherosclerosis (AS), a chronic inflammatory disease of blood vessels, is a major contributor to cardiovascular disease. Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are capable of exerting immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects by secreting cytokines and exosomes and are widely used to treat autoimmune and inflammation-related diseases. Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays a key role in many inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

To address the limitations of computer vision-assisted table tennis ball detection, which heavily relies on vision acquisition equipment and exhibits slow processing speed, we propose a real-time calculation method for determining the landing point of table tennis balls. This novel approach is based on spatial domain information and reduces the dependency on vision acquisition equipment. This method incorporates several steps: employing dynamic color thresholding to determine the centroid coordinates of all objects in the video frames, utilizing target area thresholding and spatial Euclidean distance to eliminate interference balls and noise, optimizing the total number of video frames through keyframe extraction to reduce the number of operations for object recognition and landing point detection, and employing the four-frame difference slope method and polygonal area determination to detect the landing point and area of the target object, thereby obtaining precise coordinates and their corresponding areas.
