Background: The overall survival (OS) of stage I operable lung cancer is relatively low, and not all patients can benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. This study aimed to develop and validate a radiomic signature (RS) for prediction of OS and adjuvant chemotherapy candidates in stage I lung adenocarcinoma.

Methods: A total of 474 patients from 2 centers were divided into 1 training (n = 287), 1 internal validation (n = 122), and 1 external validation (n = 65) cohorts.

Additive engineering with organic molecules is of critical importance for achieving high-performance perovskite optoelectronic devices. However, experimentally finding suitable additives is costly and time consuming, while conventional machine learning (ML) is difficult to predict accurately due to the limited experimental data available in this relatively new field. Here, we demonstrate a deep learning method that can predict the effectiveness of additives in perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) with a high accuracy up to 96 % by using a small dataset of 132 molecules.

Homelessness poses a direct threat to public health in the US as many individuals face debilitating health outcomes and barriers to adequate health care. Access to STI care for the homeless Medicaid population of USA has not been well-studied using administrative claims data. Our study aims to compare health services utilization, STI screening and diagnoses among people experiencing homelessness (PEH) vs.

In this study, the safe critical temperature that can be tolerated by CFRP tendons under normal working conditions was derived through tensile tests at room and high temperatures. Next, the times required to reach a safe critical temperature for CFRP cables protected with different types of fire-retardant materials of various thicknesses were determined through fire resistance tests, Finally, fitting the surface of the finite element simulation results allowed the establishment of the temperature rise calculation model of CFRP tendons under the protection of fire-retardant materials. The results showed that 300 °C can be regarded as the safe critical temperature.

Background: Research indicates that exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) can cause neurobehavioral impairments in neonates and adults, but the way specific PCBs’ congeners impact cognition functions at a low exposure level in a real-life co-exposure system remains poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the association of PCBs burden with cognition function among elderly adults. Methods: Based on the Weitang Geriatric Diseases study (2014−2015), the current study measured the plasma concentrations of six indicator-PCBs by GC-MS/MS and assessed the cognitive dysfunction (CoD) via an Abbreviated Mental Test in 266 participants (ages 61−90).

Irinotecan is a first-line treatment for colorectal cancer and the prodrug of 7-ethyl-10-hydroxy-camptothecin (SN-38). However, its fatal gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity raises serious concern. In liver, irinotecan generates its inactive metabolite, SN-38G via UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT)1A1.

Background: Initial and follow-up sexually transmitted infection (STI) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing are recommended when taking HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP). We assessed STI services before and after PrEP initiation among persons 18 years or older.

Methods: We conducted this retrospective cohort study at a US integrated healthcare delivery system.

Possibility of human exposure to microplastics (MPs) in water environment has been escalating, and subsequent challenges of MPs to biostability and biosafety in drinking water deserve more attention, especially in stagnant water. The present study explored the integrated impacts of MPs and chlorine on disinfection kinetics, microbial growth, and microbial community formation in drinking water, by setting MPs or microplastic-biofilm (MP-BM) under different disinfection conditions. The following were the primary conclusions: (1) The presence of MP and MP-BM led to the deterioration of water indices (especially turbidity) when chlorine was less than 1 mg/L.

Background: Accurate preoperative prediction of the invasiveness of lung nodules on computed tomography (CT) can avoid unnecessary invasive procedures and costs for low-risk patients. While previous studies approached this task using cross-sectional data, this study aimed to utilize the commonly available longitudinal data of lung nodules through sequential modelling based on long short-term memory (LSTM) networks.

Methods: We retrospectively included 171 patients with lung nodules that were followed-up at least once and pathologically diagnosed with adenocarcinoma for model development.

Polar lipids in milk are receiving increasing interest due to their bioactivities. However, milk polar lipids present a wide range of physical-chemical properties at different concentrations, making their analysis challenging. In this study, we presented a comprehensive lipidomic method using ultraperformance supercritical fluid chromatography (UPSFC)-quadrupole-time of flight-mass spectrometry (Q-TOF-MS), which enabled the separation of 18 lipid classes (including nonpolar lipids, cholesterol, ceramide, glycerophospholipids, sphingomyelin, and gangliosides) within 10 min.

Phonon-assisted upconverted emission is the heart of energy harvesting, bioimaging, optical cryptography, and optical refrigeration. It has been demonstrated that emerging two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors can provide an excellent platform for efficient phonon-assisted upconversion due to the enhanced optical transition strength and phonon-exciton interaction of 2D excitons. However, there is little research on the further enhancement of excitonic upconverted emission in 2D semiconductors.

Evanescent wave absorption-based mid-infrared chalcogenide fiber sensors have prominent advantages in multicomponent liquid and gas detection. In this work, a new approach of tapered-fiber geometry optimization was proposed, and the evanescent efficiency was also theoretically calculated to evaluate sensing performance. The influence of fiber geometry (waist radius (), taper length (), waist deformation) on the mode distribution, light transmittance (), evanescent proportion () and evanescent efficiency () is discussed.

Molecular recognition and self-assembly are often mediated by intermolecular forces involving aromatic π-systems. Despite the ubiquity of such interactions in biological systems and in the design of functional materials, the elusive nature of aromatic π interaction results in that they have been seldom used as a design element for promoting challenging chemical reactions. Described here is a well-engineered catalytic system into which non-covalent π interactions are directly incorporated.

The guided tissue regeneration (GTR) technique is a promising treatment for periodontal tissue defects. GTR membranes build a mechanical barrier to control the ingrowth of the gingival epithelium and provide appropriate space for the regeneration of periodontal tissues, particularly alveolar bone. However, the existing GTR membranes only serve as barriers and lack the biological activity to induce alveolar bone regeneration.

Triacylglycerol (TAG) regioisomers containing palmitic acid (16:0) was identified using ultra-performance supercritical fluid chromatography and quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPSFC-Q-TOF-MS) and quantified using calibration curve method and calculation equation method. There were negative linear correlation between [R]/[R+[R] and content of sn-A-B-A (%) for AAB/ABA type TAGs, [R]/[R+[R]+[R] and content of fatty acid (FA) at sn-2 position (%) for BAC/ABC/ACB type TAGs. Accumulating evidence reveals that exposure to alternative flame retardants (AFRs) results in defective thyroid functions. AFRs are detectable in various environmental media in developed cities in China. However, few studies have reported the contamination levels of AFR in groundwater in rural areas, indicating an urgent need to investigate exposure of AFRs and perform health risk assessment for populations that use groundwater as the main source of drinking water.
