In June 2016, the Maryland DHMH identified a nonpregnant woman with a fever and itchy rash, later confirmed as Zika virus infection.
She had not traveled to areas with active Zika transmission but had sexual contact with a male partner who recently returned from the Dominican Republic.
The male partner had mosquito exposure while traveling but did not show Zika symptoms, and the woman had no other sexual partners or received blood products during the symptom onset period.
