Polyaniline intercalated vanadium oxide xerogel (PV) hybrid nanocomposite (NC) with novel structure has been successfully synthesized through a simple hydrothermal route. Detailed structure and microstructure characterization of PV NC is illustrated through Rietveld refinement of XRD data and FESEM/HRTEM images. Both FTIR and XPS spectra confirm the presence of PANI and water molecules within the NC and partial reduction of V to V, corroborating with the results of XRD pattern analysis.

The pi(+)-pi interactions are utilized to design the solid-state assembly of host-guest complexes where guests are anions. The doubly protonated MPTPH(2) (MPTP = 4'-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) complexed with H(2)O and Cl(-) or Br(-) are synthesized, crystallized, and characterized by X-ray analysis. By using the density functional theory calculations which can properly describe the dispersion energy, the assembling phenomena are analyzed in terms of pi(+)-pi and pi-pi interactions as well as H-bonding interactions.

Two unusual triterpenoids, (24S)-24-methyl-25,32-cyclo-5alpha-lanosta-9(11)-en-3beta-ol and (24S)-24-methyl-25,32-cyclo-cycloartane-3beta-ol, were isolated from leaves of Pandanus boninensis along with known triterpenoids and lignans. Their structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic methods and X-ray analysis.
