Practices and attitudes of adult psychiatrists regarding methamphetamine-associated psychotic disorder: an internet based survey conducted in Turkey.

Background: Many variables may affect approaches of psychiatrists to methamphetamine-associated psychotic disorder (MAP) treatment. This study was aimed to reach adult psychiatrists actively practicing in Turkey through an internet-based survey and to determine their practices and attitudes to MAP treatment.

Methods: In this internet-based study, participants were divided into three groups based on their answers: Those who do not follow-up any MAP patient were group 1 (n = 78), partially involved in the treatment process of at least one patient diagnosed with MAP were group 2 (n = 128), completely involved in the treatment process of at least one patient diagnosed with MAP were group 3 (n = 202).

Serum Levels of Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 in Patients with Parkinson's Disease.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate serum plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) levels of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and their relationship with clinical findings and treatment of disease.

Methods: The study included 125 PD patients and 48 healthy controls. Patients have been taking effective dopaminergic treatment regularly.

In Situ Microstructure Modification Using a Layerwise Surface-Preheating Laser Scan of Ti-6Al-4V during Laser Powder Bed Fusion.

An innovative in situ thermal approach in the domain of LPBF for Ti-6Al-4V fabrication has been carried out with results directing towards an improved fatigue life without the need for post-processing. The thermal process involves an additional laser scan with different process parameters to preheat the selected regions of each layer of the powder bed prior to their full melting. This preheating step influences the cooling rate, which in turn affects surface characteristics and subsurface microstructure, both of which are directly correlated with fatigue properties.

Elevated C-reactive protein/albumin ratio in patients with methamphetamine use disorder.

Background: Methamphetamine use disorder causes significant crises, which have individual, familial, and social consequences. Identifying inflammatory biomarkers for methamphetamine use disorder may be useful for following the inflammatory status of patients in clinical assessment. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte/lymphocyte ratio (MLR), C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR) and neutrophil/albumin ratio (NAR) levels can be used as inflammatory biomarkers in methamphetamine use disorder.

Prevalence and determinants of post-traumatic stress disorder in patients with schizophrenia 2 years after an earthquake in Turkey.

Objectives: High rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have been observed in earthquake survivors many years after the event. However, its prevalence among patients with schizophrenia is largely unknown. This study, which was conducted two years after the 2020 Elazığ earthquake, sought to identify risk factors for earthquake-related PTSD among patients with schizophrenia and healthy subjects.

Evaluation of the relationship between values and psychological resilience of individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder: A cross-sectional study.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between values and psychological resilience in individuals with substance use disorder. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 70 individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder who had applied to the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment and Research Center between February and April 2022 and volunteered to participate in the study. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Values Scale, and Brief Resilience Scale (BRS).

Assessment of permanent teeth development in children with multiple persistent primary teeth.

Background: Persistent primary teeth (PPT) may occur due to various local factors, or it may develop due to general factors such as systemic diseases and syndromes. Since eruption and dental development are two different processes, it is important to investigate both processes to determine the actual cause of delayed tooth eruption. The study aimed to evaluate the dental development of a group of Turkish children with multiple PPT using the Willems dental age estimation method.

Prognostic value of the lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio and other inflammatory markers in malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Objectives: Inflammation plays a role in malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) prognosis and symptoms. We investigated the roles of the new and old inflammatory indexes and markers in MPM prognosis.

Methods: Two hundred and ninety-two MPM patients (167 male and 125 female) were included in this retrospective study.

Evaluation of New Biomarkers in the Prediction of Malignant Mesothelioma in Subjects with Environmental Asbestos Exposure.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential value of certain biomarkers in predicting the presence of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) in individuals environmentally exposed to asbestos.

Methods: This prospective study investigated three groups; a control group composed of 41 healthy subjects, an asbestos exposure group consisting of 48 individuals, and a MPM group consisting of 42 patients. Serum levels of soluble mesothelin-related peptide (SMRP), thioredoxin-1 (TRX), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), fibulin-3, syndecan-1 (SDC-1), and mesothelin were determined.

High-risk mesothelioma relation to meteorological and geological condition and distance from naturally occurring asbestos.

Objectives: Very few studies have investigated the incidence and risk of malignant mesothelioma (MM) associated with distinct sources of asbestos exposure, especially exposure to naturally occurring asbestos (NOA).

Methods: Subjects were MM, lung, and breast cancer patients who were diagnosed and followed in Diyarbakir Province between 2008 and 2013. The birthplaces of patients were displayed on a geologic map.

Metabolic Syndrome: Bridging the Gap from Childhood to Adulthood.

Childhood and adolescence are particularly vulnerable periods of life to the effects of cardiometabolic risk and later development of atherosclerosis, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. Developing countries with limited resources suffer most heavily from the consequences of cardiometabolic risk in children and its future implications to the global health burden. A better understanding of mechanisms leading to cardiometabolic risk in early life may lead to more effective prevention and intervention strategies to reduce metabolic stress in children and later disease.

Acute Exacerbation Impairs Right Ventricular Function in COPD Patients.

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may impair right ventricular (RV) function. Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) is helpful in the noninvasive evaluation of RV longitudinal function. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of acute COPD exacerbation on RV function assessed by TDI.
