Characteristics influencing COVID-19 testing and vaccination among Spanish-speaking Latine persons in North Carolina.

Background: Latine populations in the United States continue to be disproportionately affected by COVID-19 with high rates of infection and mortality. Our community-based participatory research partnership examined factors associated with COVID-19 testing and vaccination within a particularly hidden, underserved, and vulnerable population: Spanish-speaking Latines.

Methods: In 2023, native Spanish-speaking Latine interviewers conducted phone-based structured individual assessments with 180 Spanish-speaking, predominantly immigrant Latines across North Carolina.

Transitioning Adolescents to Adult HIV Care in the United States: Implementation Lessons from the Intervention Pilot Trial.

Although every youth in pediatric/adolescent HIV care will need to transition to adult-oriented care, there are no existing evidence-based interventions to optimize health through this process. Healthcare transition poses a persistent challenge to the health of youth living with HIV, which may result in gaps in care engagement, medication adherence, and viral suppression. Our process evaluation of , a multilevel mobile health (mHealth) intervention, included iterative interviews with youth, providers, and Transition Champions.

Sonographic localisation of lymph nodes suspicious of metastatic breast cancer to surgical axillary levels.

The axillary lymph node (LN) burden of breast cancer patients guides multidisciplinary management and treatment regimes. Sonographic imaging is used to identify the presence, number and location of axillary LNs suspicious of malignancy and used to guide nodal fine needle aspirations and biopsies. Axillary LNs suspicious of harbouring breast cancer metastasis can be localised to three surgical axillary levels, numbered according to their location relative to the pectoralis minor muscle and lymph flow.

Transgender Latinas' Perspectives on HIV PrEP Uptake, Condom Use, and Medically Supervised Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy: Insights From ChiCAS Qualitative Interviews.

There is a dearth of HIV prevention behavioral interventions for transgender Latinas, despite this population's HIV risk. ChiCAS (Chicas Creando Acceso a la Salud) is an intervention to increase PrEP, condom, and gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) use among transgender Latinas. To inform future work, semistructured interviews were conducted postintervention with 28 ChiCAS participants.

DHODH inhibition represents an attractive approach to overcome differentiation blockade for the treatment of AML. In a previous communication, we described our efforts leading to the discovery of compound 3 (JNJ-74856665), an orally bioavailable, potent, and selective DHODH inhibitor for clinical development. Guided by the co-crystal structures bound to human DHODH, other fused six-membered constructs were explored as isosteric replacements of the isoquinolinone central core.

Exploring the Social Exchange of Manhood and Masculine Norms Among Black Heterosexual College Men.

Traditional masculine norms state men are tough, protective, and sexually assertive. Young Black men must weigh the rewards and costs of adhering to or deviating from these norms within the college environment, as their choices can be detrimental to their health. Using the ecological-exchange framework, we examined adherence to or deviation from traditional masculine norms from focus groups with 13 Black heterosexual men at two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and one Minority-Serving Institution.

Discovery of JNJ-74856665: A Novel Isoquinolinone DHODH Inhibitor for the Treatment of AML.

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), a heterogeneous disease of the blood and bone marrow, is characterized by the inability of myeloblasts to differentiate into mature cell types. Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) is an enzyme well-known in the pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway and preclinical findings demonstrated that DHODH is a metabolic vulnerability in AML as inhibitors can induce differentiation across multiple AML subtypes. As a result of virtual screening and structure-based drug design approaches, a novel series of isoquinolinone DHODH inhibitors was identified.

Assessing growth in children and adolescents with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder.

Background: Although growth delays and disruption are a well described medical complication of restrictive eating disorders in children and young adolescents, this complication has received less attention in patients with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). Patients with ARFID have challenges with adequacy of food volume and variety that are not related to body image but are instead related to lack of interest in eating, sensory concerns, and/or fears of aversive consequences. Because onset of ARFID is commonly before puberty, concerns regarding growth adequacy may present an additional treatment challenge and a unique opportunity for support.

Developing a synergistic rate-retarding polymeric implant for controlling monoclonal antibody delivery in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have garnered substantial attention within the field of ophthalmology and can be used to suppress scar formation after minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. Here, by controlling mAb passive diffusion, we developed a polymeric, rate-controlling membrane reservoir loaded with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) microspheres to deliver mAb for several weeks. Different parameters were tested to ensure that the microspheres achieved a good quality characteristic, and our results showed that 1 %W/V emulsifier with 5 %W/V NaCl achieved mAb-loaded microspheres with the highest stability, encapsulation efficiency and minimal burst release.

Fetal Hypoglycemia Induced by Placental -RNA Interference Alters Fetal Pancreas Development and Transcriptome at Mid-Gestation.

Glucose, the primary energy substrate for fetal oxidative processes and growth, is transferred from maternal to fetal circulation down a concentration gradient by placental facilitative glucose transporters. In sheep, SLC2A1 and SLC2A3 are the primary transporters available in the placental epithelium, with SLC2A3 located on the maternal-facing apical trophoblast membrane and SLC2A1 located on the fetal-facing basolateral trophoblast membrane. We have previously reported that impaired placental SLC2A3 glucose transport resulted in smaller, hypoglycemic fetuses with reduced umbilical artery insulin and glucagon concentrations, in addition to diminished pancreas weights.

Reported Impact of COVID-19 Workload and Stressors on School Nurses' Provision of Care During the 2021-2022 School Year: A Secondary Analysis of U.S. School Nurse Survey Data.

Many school nurses experienced increased work burden and stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. This analysis examined data from a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cross-sectional, nationwide survey of school nurses in March 2022 to examine associations between school nurses' ability to conduct their core responsibilities and selected nurse and school factors among school nurses during the 2021-2022 school year and COVID-19 pandemic. Perceived adequate staffing and financial compensation reduced the odds of reported difficulties across all core school nursing tasks.

A Comparison of LED with Fluorescent Lighting on the Stress, Behavior, and Reproductive Success of Laboratory Zebra Finches ().

There are limited evidence-based husbandry recommendations for laboratory zebra finches (), including appropriate light sources. Light-emitting diode (LED) technology has been shown to improve circadian regulation and reduce stress in some laboratory animal species, such as mice and rats, when compared with cool-white fluorescent (CWF) lighting, but the effects of LED lighting on zebra finches have not been published. We compared the effects of broad-spectrum, blue-enriched (6,500 Kelvin) CWF and flicker-free LED lighting on the behavior, stress, and reproductive outcomes of indoor-housed zebra finches.

Development of a robotic cluster for automated and scalable cell therapy manufacturing.

Background Aims: The production of commercial autologous cell therapies such as chimeric antigen receptor T cells requires complex manual manufacturing processes. Skilled labor costs and challenges in manufacturing scale-out have contributed to high prices for these products.

Methods: We present a robotic system that uses industry-standard cell therapy manufacturing equipment to automate the steps involved in cell therapy manufacturing.

Discovery of Alternative Binding Poses through Fragment-Based Identification of DHODH Inhibitors.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) is a mitochondrial enzyme that affects many aspects essential to cell proliferation and survival. Recently, DHODH has been identified as a potential target for acute myeloid leukemia therapy. Herein, we describe the identification of potent DHODH inhibitors through a scaffold hopping approach emanating from a fragment screen followed by structure-based drug design to further improve the overall profile and reveal an unexpected novel binding mode.

The Frank Stinchfield Award: Assembly and Dissociation Forces Differ Between Commonly Used Dual Mobility Implants: A Biomechanical Study.

Background: Intraprosthetic dissociation (IPD) is a complication unique to dual mobility (DM) implants where the outer polyethylene head dissociates from the inner femoral head. Increasing reports of IPD at the time of closed reduction of large head DM dislocations prompted this biomechanical study evaluating the assembly and dissociation forces of DM heads.
