Although the standard treatment for liver metastasis from gastric cancer is chemotherapy, there are several reports demonstrating better survival after hepatectomy. However, repeat hepatectomy for liver metastasis is still rare. We present a case of long-term survival after repeat hepatectomy for liver metastasis from gastric cancer.

Recently, several novel regimens of combined chemotherapy have occasionally converted an initially unresectable gastric cancer to a resectable status. We evaluated the efficacy of surgical resection following the response to the primary chemotherapy for Stage IV gastric cancer.

In this study, we compared the spatial expression patterns of the two IMPase gene transcripts and proteins in mouse tissues. Results indicated discrete expression of the two IMPase genes and their protein products in various organs, including the brain.

However, an optimal treatment strategy for Siewert type II AEG is still unclear. The aim of this study was to clarify the value of splenectomy in patients with Siewert type II AEG.

However, an appropriate nodal size cutoff value to predict pathological nodal status has not been determined, and the impact of preoperative lymph node size on long-term outcomes is unclear.
Methods: This study included 137 gastric cancer patients with nodal involvement who underwent R0 gastrectomy between September 2002 and December 2006.
Background: The impact of postoperative complications on recurrence rate and long-term outcome has been reported in patients with colorectal and esophageal cancer, but not in patients with gastric cancer. This study evaluated the impact of postoperative intra-abdominal infectious complications on long-term survival following curative gastrectomy.
Methods: This study included 765 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy for gastric cancer between 2002 and 2006.
A57 years old man with gastric cancer underwent distal gastrectomy (pT3N1M0, pStage II B). Three months after gastric resection, he was admitted to our hospital because of acute right dorsal pain. Abdominal computed tomography showed multiple liver tumors with subcapsular hemorrhage.

However, only a few reports have assessed postoperative complications following LAG using the Clavien-Dindo classification.
Methods: A total of 265 patients who underwent distal gastrectomy or pylorus-preserving gastrectomy with D1+ lymph node dissection for clinical stage IA early gastric cancer at the Shizuoka Cancer Center between June 2009 and December 2011 were included in this study.
Background: The survival benefit of palliative gastrectomy in patients with peritoneal metastasis as a single incurable factor remains unclear.
Methods: A total of 148 gastric cancer patients with peritoneal metastasis underwent gastrectomy or chemotherapy at the Shizuoka Cancer Center between September 2002 and December 2008 and were included in this study. The effects of gastrectomy and chemotherapy on their long-term outcome were investigated.
Backgrounds And Objectives: A different classification system was used in the 7th edition of the TNM classification for adenocarcinoma of the subcardia either with or without esophageal invasion. The aim of this study was to clarify the clinicopathological and survival impact of esophageal invasion.
Methods: The present study included 351 patients who underwent gastrectomy for adenocarcinoma located within 5 cm of the esophagogastric junction.

We compared children and adults with regard to rapid influenza test sensitivity and viral load. Specimen volumes were measured, rapid tests were conducted, and viral load was determined. There was no difference between children and adults in test sensitivity or viral load, but children had higher specimen volumes.

An evolutionarily conserved inositol-producing enzyme myo-inositol monophosphatase (IMPase) is essential for polarized localization of synaptic molecules in Caenorhabditis elegans and can be inhibited by lithium, a drug for bipolar disorder. The synaptic defect of IMPase mutants causes defects in sensory behaviors including thermotaxis.

The present study assessed hematological parameters and the prevalence of anemia in Japanese children and adolescents, and examined the association with the frequency of meat intake. Data from the Shunan Children Health Cohort Study were analyzed.

The aim of the present study was to clarify the most appropriate fat parameter to predict pancreas-related infection and anastomotic leakage following gastrectomy.
Methods: The study was performed in 206 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy at the Shizuoka Cancer Center between April 2008 and March 2009.
Introduction: Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) is a serious complication of total gastrectomy (TG) with D2 lymphadenectomy (D2). However, the actual incidence and risk factors are not yet completely understood, due in part to the absence of the widely accepted criteria for POPF following gastrectomy.
Patients And Methods: One hundred and four patients who underwent TG with D2 between March 2007 and December 2009 were included in this study.
Mobilized stem cells in the peripheral blood (PB) must be efficiently harvested at the appropriate time before autologous PB stem cell (PBSC) transplantation. Enumeration of CD34+ cells in the PB before apheresis predicts the number of PBSCs that can be collected, but the cytometric techniques used are complex and expensive. Therefore, it is necessary to identify an alternative to the CD34+ cell count in PBSC harvest-time monitoring.

This study examines the synergistic effects of glucose and FFA on β-cell apoptosis and the molecular mechanisms involved. Mouse insulinoma cells and primary islets were treated with palmitate at increasing glucose and effects on apoptosis, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and insulin receptor substrate (IRS) signaling were examined.
